UTHSCSA Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

I have applied to UTHSCSA and UIW Fall 2018... is there anyone else who is applying or has sent in their apps?? What are your stats?

I think you can do a course through the Alamo colleges. I did mine through a previous job though.. but I am pretty sure you can do it through there or American Red Cross.

This may sound bad, but titers? I know that I have to get re-vaccinated for Hep B...

Thanks for the Insurance link

A titer is the concentration of an antibody in the blood - meaning you have the ability to mount an immune response to something like the measles if you get exposed to it.

It's a blood draw. I'd get that first, then get my vaccinations based off the results of that, if you're able. It's not enough to just get the HepB series, you need the titer, too - to make sure the vaccine worked. I started on it early and I was glad I did.

For CPR I used CPR 123. It was quick and easy.

Where did you go for that?? My doctor doesn't do those. Thank you!

I called the health department and they do hep b vaccinations and titers. But, the nurse there asked if i only needed the titers done because i was born after 1988. In 1988, they required all children get a hep b vaccination prior to entering public school. Called UTHSCSA and they said that that information would be given at the time of acceptance. Person also said that they don't have to be done prior to starting in August.

Have you asked? It's just done at a lab, but you need an order from your doctor.

Maybe something has changed then. We definitely had to have everything turned in before we were allowed to even register for classes.

Do you have to get the titers done as more of a precaution or is it a requirement?

Also I saw that there is a vaccination form on the immunization page do we have to take that when we get out shots done?

They will send you the form you need after you get accepted.

I just got all my titers drawn, but I'm older and my vaccination records are lost. The only vaccination you won't have time to complete after you get accepted is the Hep B, which apparently you can finish after school starts, so it's nothing I'd be stressed about.

Ok I understand.

I have all my shot records so I know I for sure got all my shots as a child and such. So I did begin my HEp B vaccines already and it had been added to my record.

Hope all is going well in school!!

I have no clue but I called and that's what the guy said... but I have an appointment on Friday at the health department for my first hep b vaccine... rather be safe than sorry. and if I start now I will have very little time to complete it.

Did you just start yours Goliad13?

Yes I just started the series today and will finish it early August... I have all my past shot records so I didn't get titers
