Under the documents” tab you will see an offer of admission in the documents due section. A few days after that you will see the actual .pdf of the offer of admission in your documents.

They consider the applications in order as far as I know and my application date was August 2. Are you sure your application was complete? If it was it will show that in the documents section as well and you can see your application date. If your application was complete in July and you haven't heard yet, I would call on Monday and ask.

I got my letter !!! I guess we will be classmates

Hi,

I have been looking into UPMC Shadyside and would LOVE to get into this program. I was wondering what your GPA/ TEAs test scores were if you don't mind sharing. I have taken a TEAS practice test, but don't know what the average is for the program.

Thank you!

Hi, I am in my first semester there now and really like the program a lot. Instructors are fair but firm and I feel like I am learning a lot. It's a 16 month program so they go very fast, but so far I really enjoy it.

My TEAS was an 80, but I know people who got in with lower. I think you have to score at least proficient on the test which is like 68 or something like that (not sure - you'd have to look that up or ask admissions). I have 2 degrees already so they looked at both of my college GPA's. My first one 25 years ago was like a 2.8 but my second degree in 2003 I got a 4.0.

Best advice is to get some of the co reqs done before you start. That will make your semesters much easier. I have 3 done (English, microbiology and human growth and development) which will lighten up some semesters. This semester I am doing AP1 and the two nursing courses and that's a lot. Next sem I'll have just AP II and one nursing class, but that nursing class is a 6 hour class! Plus clinical etc...

It's challenging but doable.

If you are coming straight out of HS, you may want to try to take something at a community college over the summer just to get your feet wet in college level classes.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you!

I took 3 semesters of college courses, but opted out of the school last month because they did not have a nursing program. I would go into UPMC with AP 1 and 2 (depending on how my credits transfer) under my belt as well as a lot of general education science courses. I went to Ohio State and my GPA there was not very strong (3.1) so I am hoping if I do well on this TEAs test I can snag a spot.

Which classes would be the most helpful to have under my belt going into the program?

A&P I and II, microbiology, human growth and development, English Comp and medical ethics...those are the ‘extra' classes you need. You take them either before or concurrently with your nursing classes.

If you haven't applied yet, I would soon. Last year by the end of March the fall class was full. But if you don't get into Shadyside you can also apply to one of the sister schools that are also UPMC such as St Margaret's or Mercy. They use the same curriculum. You can apply to Shadyside with those as back ups I believe.

Depending on where you would take the co-reqs, you can check with Shadyside about what classes to take because there are direct equivalents at the local community colleges that will definitely transfer. I took Micro, human growth and development and the English class (mine was older than 5 years old so i had to retake all co reqs) at CCAC in the fall and I started in January 2018z

i applied back in august for spring semester but my application was not completed. finally i had my application completed in january. 8i called last week and they said my application was under review. i dont know how long it will take again for the to send me a letter. my college gpa is low 2.5 but i had 80 on my teas exam. i know once u meen requirement they go in order of when ur application was completed.

how is the program going. do u have any off days. my A and P is older than 5 years so i know i will be repeating them. secondly how is the tuition. Are u able to work and school or u school only.

I think your Teas matters more than your GPA at this point.

The program is going well. It's hard, but doable so far. I am also taking anatomy and I have no days completely off this semester. My schedule is M 1-4, T 8-12, W 8-11 Th and Fri 7-3. Group A has one day off but their days during the week are longer.

I do not work during the program but I know plenty of people who do and it's tough. After first semester it's not recommended to work more than 20 hours a week if at all. Some people come straight from working an overnight shift to an 8am class. That's really hard. They recommend not to work if possible But if you have to to only be part time. I do about 3 hours of schoolwork a night.

Jenbripsu thank you so much for taking ur time to explain. I am really glad u are doing well for the progam. So you would be graduating May 2019. Also i would be coming from out of state and would be looking into housing once i get accepted. how would i know if i am accepted into the program? do u know how long it took ur application to go from reveiw to the letter of acceptance. i am so nervous...
