University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL) RN-BSN Experience

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I just graduated from an ADN program and passed the NCLEX-RN last week. Today I signed up for ULL's RN-BSN program and am interested on other people's opinions on the program. I believe I have all my pre-requisites completed--is the school reasonable about accepting coursework from other institutions? I would love to hear from people who have experience with this program. How did you like it? Any feedback would be welcome. Thank you!

I start on October 20th. The application process was very easy. The advisers have been great about keeping touch with me. I needed two additional classes and they were terrific about suggesting alternative ways to fulfill those requirements to save me tuition costs.

So far so good!

Thanks for the info!!! Congrats on getting accepted!!

I mailed my transcripts to them on Monday & I filled out the application. I take the NCLEX soon, so I hope to start in January 2015.

Please keep in touch!!

I also start on Oct 20th and need 2 extra classes not covered by my first bachelors, Eng Lit and an art type class. But I thought the process to apply and get registered has been easy and am nervous, but looking forward to starting in couple of weeks! Thank you for the heads up with the assessment class and the quizzes!

I guess we will be classmates, squirrel12!

I applied last week and requested my transcripts this morning! I'm excited, but at the same time kinda turned off at the fact the advisor really wasn't too forthcoming with any info until they received my transcripts. Oh well, we shall see :)

I hope to be starting in Jan. Has anyone else enroll in this program recently?

Bumping for updates...anyone ;)

I'm about halfway through the RN-BSN program at ULL, and so far my experiences have been great! My Enrollment Specialist and the Academic Advisor have been very responsive, informative, and helpful. They are a great resource when you are first starting out. The teachers have been good, and the coursework has been very manageable. I made the mistake of taking Biology and Community Nursing at the same time -- whew! that was a heavy load. You can gauge how heavy the course load will be by looking at the credits. The 2Cr courses are light and easy. Community Nsg is 5Cr and required a lot of work.

I did a lot of research into RN-BSN programs prior to enrolling in ULL, and they are definitely the most affordable program. I think the only other one I found that was comparable in price was UTA, but I didn't go with them because they required more courses (i.e. Texas Govt & Hist); and also read some bad reviews about them on allnurses. If you've taken all of your pre-reqs, it costs $8500 at ULL. If you take their general courses like Eng Lit, Stats, Biol etc., it will cost an additional $756/class. I would suggest taking those type of courses at a community college if possible. I wouldn't recommend taking the Biol course at ULL. It's a lot of complex information condensed into 7 weeks, and it was taught by the one teacher that I didn't think was very good (nice lady but very unorganized and not very good at responding). The good thing is that ULL is pretty good about accepting outside college courses, and you can complete them at any time during the program. As long as everything is completed before the final Capstone course.

Thanks for the update AKISH!!!

If everything goes as planned I will start the program in January!! Any pointers would be fantastic.

I wish you continued success & before you know it you will be finished. :roflmao:

How was the Health Assessment class? :)

Did you take Algebra or stats with ULL? Can you tell me anything about Uproctor. Also is it 750 for part1 and part2 Thanks ahead of time, and thank you for your input! :)

I just pasted a link to a conversation above that might interest you. In this thread a student who just finished at ULL gives her take on the program. She seems to be pleased with it in general. Like you, my pre-reqs are more in line with ULL. I don't think I should have any pre-reqs to do before directly starting the Nursing courses, so I am waiting to have my transcripts evaluated to see what happens. Signing up for the program at ULL was also very easy. I didn't have to apply to the University first, which a lot of other schools make you do. It only took a few minutes and cost $25. I'll let you know once I hear more from ULL about my pre-reqs. I may just have a look at UTA, too...just to compare.

Where did you end up attending?? :)

I ended up going with ULL and will be graduating after I finish my capstone class in February 2015 (I am currently on a six-week break for the Christmas and New Year holidays). I started the program in March 2014 and took one to two classes each seven-week session. Time has really gone by quickly, and I can't believe I only have one class left! I didn't have any prerequisite courses to complete, just Nursing courses, so I don't have any info on the prerequisite courses. I didn't, however, find the Nursing coursework overly difficult...You asked in particular about the Health Assessment class, and it was fine...no problem. That being said, you need to keep up-to-date with your assignments and turn them in on time. You usually have discussion forums, quizzes, and papers or projects to complete. In the Health Assessment class you need to do a Youtube video of a health assessment. You will do a lot of research online at the library and write a lot in the APA format. I have found the instructors to be very nice, attentive, and helpful, and I am really glad to have chosen ULL for my RN-BSN. The classes were interesting, and the program was well organized. I also found the price to be cheaper than many other options out there. In general, I would recommend this program to you without hesitation! I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
