TWU Spring 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those hoping to get into TWU starting Spring 2014. My name is Kia and I have already sent in my application and completed my TEAS V exam. I'll be in the Denton campus patho class this fall (trying to wait patiently for an acceptance letter-GOD willing).

Hello Moneca,

May I ask what did you get on your Hesi A2? I am preparing for that test atm.. and I was told by advisor to aim for 80.. I am not sure if 90 is possible for me since my reading comprehension is not so great.. also, I did hear from other people saying that vocabulary section on Hesi is challenging, but I thought they have all the vocabulary in the review section? I do agree that UTMB seems easier to get into.. I read many forums and seem like their requirements are less specific compares to TWU. TWU look at preferences grades and test scores. And many students didn't make to TWU end up at UTMB. My advice for TEAS is you definitely have to study beyond to what's in the book. To me I feel like the book is only a general description of everything, and I had to go into dept. with every subject(especially science). I am not a native speaker so reading was tough for me because I ran out of time at the end.. Science I felt like I studied good but end up with a 66! the math and grammar section, just look at their guide, I think it covers pretty much everything you need to know. I made 85 on those sections.. I looked at both Hesi and Teas study guide, Hesi is definitely easier.. Teas questions can throw you off sometimes, so read CAREFULY. Let me know if you have other questions, I am happy to help :)

Hello Smak1013,

I got close to the 80% in my hesi because of the vocabulary section. I am studying for the teas and try my best to pass... What books did you use for teas?

The vocabulary section is not difficult but very tricky, don't emphasise just on the study guide because there are some words that are not there...also pay a lot attention what they are asking for... If you Google there is an university from San Antonio that gives you a review on the vocabulary words.. it is very helpful..

Hey! I used the Princeton review. I didn't do great on the TEAS because of the science. It really threw me off, there was a lot of chemistry and physics.

Awsome! Thank you, i will look into that. I hope you do well on your TEAS! Be cautious about the time on reading and math, the first part of reading takes alot of time, so if you aren't sure don't reread just pick an answer you feel most comfortable and go on to the next. The second part of reading is really easy, but take time. Math is easy but takes time too, I finished right on time.

Hello Smak1013,

Just curious how did you do on your preferences and GPA? Is this your first time applying to TWU?

Hey! What are preferences? I did all of my prereqs at San Jac and Yes, this is my first time applying to TWU. My GPA is a 3.5

They look at first attempt A's on 4 classes, which are Microbiology, AP1, AP2, and stastics. If you have made all A's on first attempt you get 4 preferences. Like Iampam said they weight heaviest on those classes. If you retake those 4 classes because you made B, the preference will not apply.. I hope my explaination is clear hehe.

Well I wasn't planning on retake anything. I made an A in ap1, B in ap2, B in micro, and an A in stats. No way in hell I'm retaking those, I'm done with prereqs lol

Lol, i know what you mean, 4 credit hour class is no fun. I hope we all get in, just 3more months to goooo!

Yes, it is like a two step thing. Have you already applied to TWU through ApplyTexas? It normally only takes a few weeks after you get all your transcripts sent in. The deadline for nursing is September 1, yes. So you'll have to be accepted into TWU and have applied to the nursing program on your Pioneer Portal before then.

Hello Pam,

I just saw my accepted status to TWU, so happy! It's not the nursing program yet but at least it's something lol. Thanks again for the information! :)

If we have to sign up for the nursing program on the Pioneer portal, do we still have to use ncas?

I don't think so. After apply on Pioneer portal and pay $30 then you're done. Just did it now, super easy
