RN Program process in OC?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

hi there! I'm planning to take up RN program in a community college but I'll be starting from scratch. I have a bachelors degree from another country but its in business administration field. i have been doing my research online but need more info. I was in the verge of enrolling for OTA program in a private school but decided at the last minute that it's way too expensive, which is the same with the private school for RN program. I'm gonna end up paying $100k plus in total. I know being in a CC would take years before i finish but would save me from taking a loan that much. My husband and I want to clear our minds from keeping on paying off loans since we also have a plan of getting a house. here are some of the questions which i hope you guys could help me out.

1. Which Community College is better? For taking up pre -reqs and rn program here in OC? Cypress College, Cerritos College, Saddleback College, Goldenwest College?

2. How many years before I finish all the pre -reqs? Say, I will be a full time student.

3. How many hours does a single pre-req subject have?

4. Is there really a waiting list for the program? If so, how long?

5. Whats the first step for applying for admission for those who have a bachelors degree from another country? Am i considered as freshman?

Thanks people! If there's more u think i need to know, feel free to add it :)

Hi there, I just got into nursing program at Golden West College for this Fall 2014. Each community colleges you just listed has different criteria in choosing applicants for the program. This is how Golden West program selects students:

They will provide you a handout contained multiple requirements. Each requirement can be equivalent to a specific amount of points. The more points you can have, the better chance you can be selected for the program. Those requirements are:

+ GPA: they will use 4 pre nursing classes in order to calculate your GPA for the application. Those classes are: Human Anatomy ( Bio 220 (4 units) this is the code of the class at my school, different schools have different code), Microbiology( bio 210, 5 units) Human Physiology ( bio 225, 4 units) and English Freshman composition ( Eng 100, 3 units).

+ TEAS test score

+ Level of former education: Associate or Bachelor degree

+ Volunteer hours in health care or clinical setting: 100-200 hours to be considered.

+ Second language with sufficient proof.

Depend on how do you manage to take those 4 courses. It took me 2 years into to fulfill those classes.

They only collect students' application once a year and divide that amount of applicant into two semesters (either for Spring or Fall ).
