NYU ABSN Spring 2018!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I was curious if anyone was applying to NYU ABSN program for the Spring of 2018! I have a Bachelors of Art in Communication with a business emphasis; I am currently taking prerequisites and applying this summer.

Nope, still nothing yet.

Hey guys! I graduated from the NYU ABSN program in May 2017. I was in the Spring 2016 cohort. Just in case anyone had any q's about the program, or anything in general, I'm here for you guys! I already passed the NCLEX end of July, and just started my first job so I've been through the whooooole process start to finish. I always post on the new cohort pages on here because I remember during this time I wanted to know as much as I could about the program, so I'm just paying it forward. Congrats to those who got accepted already, and good luck to everyone else!

Thank you for reaching out! I am an accepted Acceelrated Nursing student for NYU's Spring 2018 cohort. I have already taken care of my deposit, health clearances, virtual orientation, RSVP'ing to January in person meeting, and now I am just waiting to receive my schedule which we get January 4th. I am trying to begin reading and preparing myself prior to the start of the semester and am looking for ways to maybe buy books from students from the previous cohorts, or maybe ask questions regarding the academic calendar (any holiday breaks etc). If it's easier to email or communicate on a different platform let me know. I am trying to be as prepared as possible, but at this point it's just a waiting game until the program starts.

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Welp, looks like they're sending out their thanks but no thanks. I just randomly checked albert and saw I had an admission decision. Good luck to everyone else!

I was accepted on October 28th. All prerequisites have been completed. I truly beleive my personal statement was a strong stand point in my acceptance decision. My statement was 705 words, It was a page long.

I would not worry about the length as long as you kept it a page, articulated your thoughts clear and concise, and showed integrity.

My opening paragraph confronts my biggest setback in academics and how I was dismissed from a nursing program a few years back. My second paragraph's first sentence states that I was fired from my job after college. I did not hold back, I owned every failure I've come across leading me up to this point in my statement and I did not turn them into positives. instead, I articulated myself to open up so that admissions could see me as a relatable human being trying to make something of her life. I made it clear that after all of my setbacks I managed to be proactive rather than reactive to get me to where I am despite crummy cards dealt. I used specific examples and accomplishments that reflected through my resume.

We ALL have a story so, it's best to share it from the heart. Own your setbacks, confront them, and be you!

you can't measure compassion through transcripts so, don't be hung up on the small stuff at this point. Everything is sent in and what is meant to be will be.

My story to being accepted into the nursing program is an inspiring one, the best advice I have is to just remind yourself if this is something you really want, then trust in yourself that it will happen... at your our pace.. when the timing is right.

when you get your acceptance either today, or next cohort... just remind yourself your the right path.

this acceptance was a seven year process for me. If I can do it... you all can!

Submitted my application on 8/3/17 and still waiting, hopefully they release more decisions today!

I submitted my application 8/15 and still haven't heard back! It's so nerve-wracking.

I got my decision letter this morning, and I did not get in. I was not a very strong applicant and I knew that from the beginning.

In the spirit of being transparent, I figured I would share my stats as well.

I have an undergraduate BS in Psychology. I finished it in May after dropping out in 2013 (I was a restaurant manager working 60 hours a week. My grades suffered and I was put on academic probation). I sent in 5 different transcripts because I bounced around a lot. Some GPAs were good, some bad. My last year of school was a 4.0 Deans list and I think cumulative, my gpa was around a 3.0.

My prereqs were the scary part, but I wanted to at least try to get in.

A&P -C (from 8 years ago) (and it shows a partial retake with a D because I dropped it too late)

Stats- B (from 5 years ago)

Developmental Psych-A (retake, first time was a c)

Nutrition-A (retake, first time was a C)

Chem- A

Currently in Micro and A&P... guarantees A in A&P with a possible A but most likely B+ in micro.

I had two strong letters of recomendation. I am doing psychological research and my mentor wrote me one. Also my manager wrote me one.

My personal statement should have been edited by a professional. I had writers block for a while and just decided to word vomit and edit. Initially I told a story, but after all of the editing to get down to 512 words, I think I lost the story and it turned into something different. Also, i only directly answered the questions at the end. In the rewrite, I will talk about my previous struggles with school and emphasize how serious I am this time around. I figured they could see trends on my transcripts, so I didnt waste words explaining. Unfortunately, i think I should have definitely touched on it more.

I will try again and will also apply to other schools. This one was putting all my eggs in one basket, and it would have been cool if it worked out, but I was prepared for it to not.

As of right now, I am registered to retake A&P 1 in the spring and I think I need to re-take statistics because the time limit is approaching. I am also going to apply to hospitals to volunteer. That was my original plan, but between classes, work and research, I had no time this last year.

Good luck to everyone else!

i had writers block for seven months it's awful! My final draft I refused to let anyone edit it because it got to a point where everyone was changing things making it not sound genuine. I needed it to be my own. I admire your journey and your struggles seem similiar to mine. If you need any help in regards to using failures or setbacks as an advantage I'd love to help.

You definitely have what it takes to. W a nurse.. keep persevering! You'll get there!

Hey guys! So I was recently accepted into Spring 2018, which is very exciting. I'll share my stats if anyone needs them, but I do have a few concerns for everyone accepted:

1. I plan to get my health forms reviewed and signed by my PCP next Monday, as well as doing a drug test. Is this correct? lol

2. I plan to do my fingerprinting by early December, will this be too late?

3. How do we sign up for the CPR classes?

4. Are there any scholarships one can apply to for Spring 2018?

5. Do we make our own schedule or do we receive one?

6. Do we have to go and get our ID card and name tag? and how?

7. Anybody else going to orientation, because I just signed up.

8. Can we get scrubs from anywhere else or does it have to be from the NYU bookstore. Also, does anyone know what textbooks we need so I can try to buy them cheaper and begin studying?

I plan to call NYU tomorrow (Monday) to ask these questions, but it'll be greatly appreciated for any feedback. Also, good luck to everyone still waiting and for the ones accepted, I look forward to meeting with you!

I was told that they plan on having all decisions sent by Dec 1st
