NCTC ADN Fall 2013

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm going to Gainsville next week to apply for the ADN program and was wondering if anyone else was looking to do the same. I live in Lewisville, so Gainsville is quite a drive, but I'd be willing to car pool! Has anyone started to study for the Kaplan? I need to get started on that since the test is scheduled to take place at the end of June. Good luck to all of the applicants!

Oops, sorry jlg311 - I accidentally replied to your old post because I accidentally scrolled to the end of the first page instead of the last post of this topic - so I am sure you already have working figured out.

Anyway, I appreciate the info about micro.

I'm hoping that they send out a schedule or at least blocks of time that we will be in class when they send out acceptance letters. My employer is willing to work with my schedule, but I need to let them know as soon as possible what it will be so that they can fit me in.

That is great that you have an employer who will work with you! It sounds like NCTC's program has a pretty set schedule for each semester with a few extra's clincials thrown in here and there, so that is a plus! During the information session, I wrote down that you have class 2 days per week and 1, 8 hour clinical (Wed, Thurs, Fri) in the first semester. I bet if you call, they can tell you what they will be doing for the Fall semester.

I know they also try to group people in regards to where they live for their clinicals so that people who live in Lewisville aren't driving all the way to Gainsville, instead of Denton. Hopefully that works out as well. I'm so excited, but very nervous. My test is on Tuesday!

I asked the Business Office today and was told they are testing about 100 students.

I tested Tuesday as well. I am very nervous! Are you doing the generic or the transitional?

I hope you all did well on the exam!

Do any of you have feedback which you can share regarding the exam? Did it fit the description presented on the NCTC website? I am especially curious about the math! I saw the the example questions on NCTC's website about "X grains", and I really didn't understand it. The nursing director said that the Kaplan exam covers very basic dosage calculations such as "a physician orders 50mgs of a drug but you only have 25mg tablets, how many should you give the patient?" But then I read the sample questions, and I was concerned because they seemed more complex.

Do they test grammar - such as, do you need to know grammatical terminology such as verb, adjective, pronoun, adverb, etc. I do fine with sentence arrangement and intuitively knowing how the sentence should sound or be arranged, but if they expect terminology, I will need to study that!

Did any of you find study material that you found especially helpful for the exam? I hope to take my exam next summer!

Good luck all!

wow. I didn't think there was an allnurses page for nctc! so glad there is!! Took my test today and very nervous. If I get in I am coming from Frisco so if anyone wants to carpool PLEASE let me know :)

Also the instructors for the test told us that the cut off grade should be posted tomorrow late afternoon/evening on the nctc page.

I'm also very nervous. I didn't do as well as I thought I would on the AP section and that brought my overall score down. I don't even want to post what I made, but it was definately over the cut off score for last year so I am really crossing my fingers! They told us on Tuesday that they should have something up on the site by Thursday night and I hope they stick to that.

Good luck to everyone. Hopefully, tomorrow brings good news for all of us. I'm ready for the wait to be over.

Edit: I forgot to add that I am doing the BSN Pathway.

what was the cut off for last year??

I also didn't do as well on the anatomy portion as I wanted to.

The cut off last year was a 73%, but they also only tested 60 students.

jls0459 you said you called the business office to check how many were testing right? Because I do know that the max that they test is 100, 60-generic, and 40-bridge. I wonder if that was a mistake (I hope lol). Anyway, I do have a friend that is in the RN program, and she overheard them saying that so far the scores were very low. Now this was yesterday btw and I haven't talked to her today. I think I did okay but can't say that I feel confident enough that I know I'm in. I hate the waiting game, but am glad we will know tomorrow and not in 3 weeks.

TWiersch I will post on here in more detail tomorrow about what was helpful for me with studying. I have to write a paper for my class tomorrow and I was just taking a little break.

Oh and just fyi I am going for the bridge program. Good luck everyone!
