NCTC ADN Fall 2013

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm going to Gainsville next week to apply for the ADN program and was wondering if anyone else was looking to do the same. I live in Lewisville, so Gainsville is quite a drive, but I'd be willing to car pool! Has anyone started to study for the Kaplan? I need to get started on that since the test is scheduled to take place at the end of June. Good luck to all of the applicants!

Well we will have to get creative because we have five people for the carpool now. Two cars? I'm hoping to meet the rest of the group in class on Monday and get more people involved. For Monday though, I think we will have to take two cars because I know mine won't hold five.

You are right I think we can take 2 cars if we all don't fit in 1 .... and then maybe we can find more people in class..

Thanks for the info Amanda I just got on the FB group and got 2 more people for the carpool. Jeanna now we have all together 7 people meeting on Monday at 6:50 am in Corinth Campus , we can definitely take two cars now :) Thank you

So were exactly on the campus are we meeting. I have never been there and don't wanna miss the carpool group.

I just joined the FB group and saw the additional people for the carpool. I'm really glad we are getting this worked out. As far as where to meet - the "campus" is actually just one building and both entrances to the building lead into a cafeteria area. I think that is a good place and if we can't get in, we can just stand outside.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and get your opinions/advice/etc on first semester ADN at nctc! I just took the Kaplan rest yesterday and feel like I have a pretty good chance of acceptance, so I'm trying to go ahead and get myself prepared. Thanks in advance. :)

Hello ashleyj2011, congrats on doing well on the Kaplan! First semester so far isn't too unbearable, but the class assignments and tests dates are now starting to overlap so it gets a bit overwhelming. Just make sure you stay ahead on the reading and don't wait til the day before to study. Scrubs for class need to be Landau brand in red...you might want to buy them a size bigger cause you more than likely will gain some weight, unless you are big on exercising but you might find that you no longer have time to do that once school starts. On orientation day, they will announce that they have extra scrubs donated by the upperclassmen that have graduated, which really helps if you can't afford them right away, especially after having to pay all this money for immunizations and background checks and all the other things you need before school starts. Hope this info helps, let me know if you have any questions...Good luck!

Thank you for the tips! It really helps to have an idea of what to expect before hand!

Hey y'all - I hope your first semester is going well!

I am hoping someone can share their class schedule and clinical schedule for the 1st semester.

I am trying to decide if I need to get on my son's school waiting list for the after school program. I know the schedule can change, but I am curious to know what it is like anyway just in case I am lucky enough to get in the program.

We have class on Mon 8-5.Tues 8-9 for lecture and then the class is split in half, 1st half is in class from 9-12, 2nd half has class from 1-4 but there are days when they give the 2nd half the option of staying for the 1st half, it just depends what we are doing that day. There is one clinical day, either Wed, Thurs or Fri. I know the Wed and Thurs clinical groups are from 6:30am - 1pm, and the Fri group is from 3pm-11pm, although I've heard from some people in the Fri group that they do not actually stay that long. From what I can tell, it seems that the people who live the farthest get the better schedule, like the 1st group on Tues and either a Wed or Thurs schedule. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, that does help! I wonder who they consider the farthest away - I will have a 45 min commute.

It sounds like I could possibly get by without childcare. I heard from a previous student that they try to accommodate students who have childcare issues to contend with, I wonder if that is true.

Do you all go to the clinical location the night before? What times are you allowed to do that? I am assuming you need to do a care plan after the fact too?

Thanks so much - this will help me determine if I should get my son on a list for the aftercare program at school!
