Kaplan University ASN program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Is anyone enrolled in (or has heard of )Kaplan University's online ASN program? According to the school, the courses are taught online and the clinicals are done in the South Florida area. This program is new (provisional status with the Florida BON). I'm thinking of enrolling but am a little apprehensive. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well I'm sure these students make big sacrifices especially coming from TN! Yikes! The waitlist may have changed because this information was told to me directly from the Asst Dean of Nursing - who knows now-a-days right...

I also heard through the grapevine that they are trying to expand the program to north fl (thats where I live, Jacksonville). Anyone know of this?

I know it is soooooooooooooo hard to get any information about this program! They make it nearly impossible to reach someone about it! Does anyone know when the next start date is?

Next official start date is 9/22/10. But you would have had to submit all your paper by, today, I think. I would call any Kaplan office in Plantation FL or Pembroke Pines FL.

Hi I've just started at Kaplan nursing. They didn't inform us on where we would be placed for the clinicals. I live in South Florida of course and was told the clinical sites are between Miami, Broward county and Palm Beach county. What hospitals are the students place students for the clinicals?

As far as I've been told, they will only say they will be in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm counties. Not sure which specific hospitals. Do you know when the next start date is?

I'm currently enrolled in the program, and the only hospitals I've seen them use for clinical sites are West Boca Medical Center and Wellington.

How do you like the program??

I personally dont like it, and would not recommend it to anyone, they are very disorganized and furthermore the first class to take the NCLEX 4 of 8 passed giving them a 50% passing rate. At this point i'm not sure if the program will get accredited.

WOw that's interesting! Besides being disorganized, do you feel you are getting the training/education required? Have you started you clinicals yet? How are they....was told it's offered only on weekends...well Saturdays to be exact. Are the clinicals real-life learning experience?

I'm hoping to start at the end of this month...I am still waiting on my official acceptance into their program.

I really hope that once I do get in, the program is a ALOT better and finally gets the accreditation needed!!

The clinicals are only offered on saturdays and sundays. And what you learn in the clinicals is really based on what type of patients are in the hospital, one day it could be very busy and you get to experience alot where on some days you might not even get a patient at all.

As far as the education provided, because the program is mostly online, its really up to you to put in the effort into your studies if you want to suceed.

OK, well this is definitely helpful information. How's the actual work-study load, papers, exams, tests quizzes, lectures? Any actual labs?

I will be working full-time and going to school, hope I can manage. I need to make excellent grades.

Do you feel you will be academically ready to NCLEX?

Sorry for all the questions, there is very little information about KU ASN program and not many blogs/forums where people are talking about it.

Thanks!!!!!
