Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam!

Hello everyone!

I just took the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam! I just wanted to post a review since there is really nothing out there about it.

The reading is simply, reading. The page splits into two sections, so on the left side you have the actual reading and the right side are the questions.

The math can vary.. I only had fractions/decimals/word/proportions. It was extremely easy- unless math is hard for you. I would recommend brushing up on fractions & percentages.

The science..... study everything about each system! I really had a question about EVERY topic listed in the book that it says the test is on (e.g.: electrolytes, renal/digestive (etc) systems.. neurology..) all of them!

The writing is a pain, I am actually a good essay writer (or so I think). There are questions about which sentence should be omitted, which sentence has a grammar error, punctuation errors.. There are also questions about where another paragraph should be inserted.

The science was the most difficult part for me, there is so much to study for only 20 quick questions. There are a million things to know about the digestive system, but one question..

Examples of questions I had:

Which system controls metabolism?

How does blood flow through the heart? (through which ventricle first/last)

If a nurse is examining someone with gout, what should the person's foot look like?

I had questions about how air travels through the lungs, as well & homeostasis questions.

You do have a basic calculator you can use (which can do everything you need it to do).

You get your results after the exam is finished & I was able to print mine off. I started at 12:30 PM and finished at 2:30 PM. I did not take any breaks as it was easier to just keep going, neither did anyone in my group. But, I've heard some people recommend breaks (especially if you have test anxiety)

I am taking the Kaplan entrance exam this month. I checked the Kaplan study guide out of the library and took the first practice test cold without looking at any of the study guides and freaked out over the science portion. For example, there was a question regarding the reason for recoil when shooting a gun. I got an A in AP physics in high school 20 years ago and can tell you that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, but after 20 years I no longer have any freaking clue whether that's Newton's first law or his third! I'm so frustrated. Isn't the point of education to understand the concept, not regurgitate relatively meaningless facts? I think I may be too old for this!

kspenser, there is no physics on the Kaplan. You only need to review the systems indicated in the sample Kaplan exam given out by your college.

If you check the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam Study Guide, it says that it is a study guide for many different nursing school entrance exams. Oddly enough, the Kaplan Entrance Exam is not one of them -- at least it wasn't when I used it last year. There are many things in the Kaplan Study Guide that aren't on the Kaplan Entrance Exam.

If you check your schools website regarding the Kaplan, they may have a list of the information you need to study and a sample study test. It only covers the physiology of certain systems. It wold be to your advantage to check, because you may reduce your study time significantly!!!

did you also have a question about asthma? i took the kaplan today and did great on everything except the science part :(

i have not taken anatomy 2 yet and while i was scrolling through my study guide, i seemed to notice that all the systems are there, but im not sure if i should go by the study guide or actually study the book.

Can anyone tell me how you took your kaplan exam? The school I applied to requires it but I am in another state. The university told me I cannot proctor it and I need to facilitate taking it remotely on my own. I've tried calling Kaplan and various testing centers with no luck...I'm in Kansas any info would be greatly appreciated!

At your school that you took the Kaplan exam, did you have to have an Act to get into school?

did you study the kaplan study guide ? i took the kaplan but failed with a 46% any suggestions.
