Just accepted into Barry University's traditional BSN program!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello All!

Let me first just say, this is my first post, and if someone posted something like this previously, please forgive me :chicken:. I recently just completed my my A.A.S. degree in medical assisting. I was taking all my pre-requisites while studying to be a M.A. at the same time. I was a non-traditional student, and earned my GED through college credits through my institution (Monroe College Bronx,NY). I worked extremely hard to maintain a great GPA, and can proudly say I will be graduating with Summa Cum Laude! :roflmao:

When my journey at Monroe College was coming to an end, I decided I wanted to fulfill my original dreams, and go away to college for nursing, like I've been aspiring to do ever since my Dad was being treated then passed away from leukemia. Colombia University's nurses were amazing there, and helped me find my true passion in life! Healthcare!

So I guess this was kind of a introductory post as well. LOL.

However, I wanted to know if any of you have attended Barry's BSN program?

Anyone from out of state preferably? Only because I would be re-locating,

and dorming down there. However, anyone who has attended your response is still very much appreciated. As for financial aid, I am deemed independent by the govt. (I'm 24) due to absenteeism of my mother. I would like to know if they assist with finances for expenses while looking for a job?

Last question I promise! LOL.

Did you have to take the TEAS or entrance exam? I already have 69 credits.

Thanks!

-Andre, C.M.A

Hi

Did you join the Facebook group???

It is a lot of fun and a lot of information

See you soon

hey did you try to appeal to barry? you can always explain your situation and why you had to withdraw and they could re-consider you ! call them and find out !

I applied for the Aug. 2013 program, but sadly, I had withdrawn out of chemistry and anatomy and physiology 2 and that made me a no go right away. They wouldn't even consider my application after that. I had no idea that withdrawals would affect me like that. I have a 3.71 GPA and when I retook those science courses the following semesters I got an A in both of them. I was really focused on my GPA so much that I didn't think that withdrawals would affect me like that. My wife went through the nursing program at Barry about 5 years ago and she had a withdrawal on her transcripts and it didn't stop her from being accepted. I guess as the program is becoming more saturated, they are becoming more strict. LOL, I felt I was a pretty good candidate to get in also. Oh well, trying Nova, and FAU. Currently studying for the TEAS test to apply to FAU, and turning in my application to Nova within the next few days. Really upset about all this but must keep on trucking.

Yes if you really want to go to Barry try and appeal the withdraws.Write them a letter explaining your situation or even get a Letter of Recommendation that is what I did to get in.

What is the cost of the nursing program at Barry per year or semester?

If you are accepted you have to pay a $225 deposit to secure your seat. Its around $28000 per year the advisors tell most students to complete their pre-reqs at a community college then transfer

Okay thanks. Also, if pre-read are completed how long is the actual program itself, and is summer considered a semester?

Thanks.

Traditional is 5 semesters

Everyone that is Starting the program in Fall at Barry please come back and tell us how your first semester went or is going when you get the chance :-)

^^^^Agree.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

Honestly, I didn't even try appealing because I figured I could explain one withdrawal one semester, but not another withdrawal the following semester. I just applied to Nova, and about to take the TEAS V for FAU in September. Really it can't hurt to attempt to appeal both of them. I already have the no, might as well try and attempt to see if they would have mercy on me, lol. I appreciate the heads up, thanks!

hello everyone

I am applying for the BSN program starting january 2014. I am confused on something they got my transcripts and I got accepted into the pre-nursing program, I have done all my pre-requisites at a college here in Miami and I was only missing the religion class which I am taking now. They say I have to pay a deposit of $225 does this mean that I actually got accepted into the BSN program?. Anyone that knows please help thanks

Hello I got accepted into Pre-Nursing as well because I had a couple pre-requisites to finish, which I am taking now.Pre-Nursing means you are accepted into the school. I payed the deposit as well but you are not officially accepted into the program until you receive the letter or email stating you are. I am not sure when they notify students for the January Program.
