Just accepted into Barry University's traditional BSN program!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello All!

Let me first just say, this is my first post, and if someone posted something like this previously, please forgive me :chicken:. I recently just completed my my A.A.S. degree in medical assisting. I was taking all my pre-requisites while studying to be a M.A. at the same time. I was a non-traditional student, and earned my GED through college credits through my institution (Monroe College Bronx,NY). I worked extremely hard to maintain a great GPA, and can proudly say I will be graduating with Summa Cum Laude! :roflmao:

When my journey at Monroe College was coming to an end, I decided I wanted to fulfill my original dreams, and go away to college for nursing, like I've been aspiring to do ever since my Dad was being treated then passed away from leukemia. Colombia University's nurses were amazing there, and helped me find my true passion in life! Healthcare!

So I guess this was kind of a introductory post as well. LOL.

However, I wanted to know if any of you have attended Barry's BSN program?

Anyone from out of state preferably? Only because I would be re-locating,

and dorming down there. However, anyone who has attended your response is still very much appreciated. As for financial aid, I am deemed independent by the govt. (I'm 24) due to absenteeism of my mother. I would like to know if they assist with finances for expenses while looking for a job?

Last question I promise! LOL.

Did you have to take the TEAS or entrance exam? I already have 69 credits.

Thanks!

-Andre, C.M.A

Barry decided to change the scrubs this year I think that the new ones are blue that's what someone said. They will arrive to the book store in august. What day do you have your CPR class?

Mine is July 8

About the books I already have some of them.

Thank you about the test I'm a little worry because some people said that there is not enough time to finish it.

Are you studying for the math test ??? We still have time but it is better to star early

Let me know of you want to study one day

I saw you wrote that the students who are selected for the program have to take a english and math test. Does the Math test consist of basic algebra or medical dosage math?

Well I'm almost in the same loop that everybody else. I spoke to an advisor 2 days ago she said that the math test is just basic math such as conversion, fractions, changing f• to Celsius. That's the only think that she instructed is not a pass or fail test they just want to know how good your math skills are.

I'm going to star practicing some problems with some books that I bought for nursing entry test. That may probably help

Good luck

Oh thanks for the info.

Im actually taking the CPR class tomorrow lol ill let you know how it goes.

Would u mind sending me a list of the books ? I couldn't find them anywhere.

Yea I was worried about the timing for the EAT too. I ius went as fasr as I can. I mean the vocab was very basic. Its not going to be that bad. Dont worry !

N no I didnt start studying for math. I have no idea wats on it yet. I wouldn't mind meeting up to study. Let me know when u wana start !

Miami Dade college medical campus has a small course for 79.00 dollars for math preparation for the (TEAS) -the entry test for miami dade college nursing. I'm sure that it enfaces in fraction, conversions, % problems and so on. We can take it together. I don't want to take math remedial class so I want to pass and I'm not math savvy so I have to study.

Good luck Girl !!!!!! In your CPR class

Yayyyyyy how exited I want to know everything. Go with comfortable cloth because I know that it is very fiscal.

Send me a email with your info !!!!!

the name of the fb group is: Barry Univeristy Nursing BSN Students Starting Fall 2013!

Specializes in Emergency Department.

I applied for the Aug. 2013 program, but sadly, I had withdrawn out of chemistry and anatomy and physiology 2 and that made me a no go right away. They wouldn't even consider my application after that. I had no idea that withdrawals would affect me like that. I have a 3.71 GPA and when I retook those science courses the following semesters I got an A in both of them. I was really focused on my GPA so much that I didn't think that withdrawals would affect me like that. My wife went through the nursing program at Barry about 5 years ago and she had a withdrawal on her transcripts and it didn't stop her from being accepted. I guess as the program is becoming more saturated, they are becoming more strict. LOL, I felt I was a pretty good candidate to get in also. Oh well, trying Nova, and FAU. Currently studying for the TEAS test to apply to FAU, and turning in my application to Nova within the next few days. Really upset about all this but must keep on trucking.

I will tell you this Do Not Give Up! Keep on going and apply to as much programs as possible.Im still finishing up a couple of pre-reqs but I did get accepted to Barry hopefully I will start the program in January. I was terrified that Barry would not accept me because I had a "D" on my transcript since I was previously in a a nursing program at a community college last year and failed one class my first semester. I thought I was done for and no other school would accept me but I kept on going. Do not let it get you Down!!!

Hi dfridm

Barry wasn't the first school where I applied so I understand your frustration. The only thing I can say is keep applying to other schools other programs maybe star with LPN and then move on to RN,Do volunteer work, join a nursing association -that helps too. I Have done all of that and my gpa is 3.8 I work full time and i volunteer 40 hours in a clinic. -Don't ask me how, but You can do it too just find your way and schools that may consider those volunteer hours in consideration. Florida national college has a nursing program, UM as well. Don't worry is not the end of the world. Just don't give up!!!!

Good luck in your journey
