Is NYU worth the money?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm almost a senior in high school and I'm positive that I want to become a nurse. I'm looking at NYU right now for my BSN but I don't know if it is worth the money. I hear that they don't really give a lot of financial aid, but they provide a lot of opportunities with internships and studying abroad. Do you think it balances out or should I look at another school that's cheaper? I really like Stony Brook University and I'm almost guaranteed acceptance into Molloy. Can anyone share their opinion on this, whether you went to NYU or not? I know that NYU has bigger classes, but I think the opportunities they give pay off. Opinions please?

Thank you!!! ;)

The short answer is NO! Most people like NYU because of the location of the University and believe that it would be "cool" to go there. If your parents are well off and money is no object, then go for it. If you will be financing part of NYU education with student loans, then it is a bad investment, given the other options available to you, such as Stony Brook.

So, the Annual Tuition and Fees for NYU is roughly $46,000, $8,400 for Stony Brook ($26,000 for Molloy). IMHO, a nursing degree from an NYU is the same as that from Stony Brook or any of the CUNY BSN Program.

If you really need to go to NYU, you should spend your first two years at a State School or Community College doing your prerequisites. This will save you at least $64K! At any rate, I must applaud you for looking into these issues at this time. You are ahead of the game when compared to with a large percentage of High School Students.

You can search this forum for similar topic on NYU and get a feel for the feedback from other students who have attended NYU, etc.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look more into it!
