Grand Canyon University RN-BSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello!

I am looking to hear from past, current and prospective GCU RN-BSN students.

Any recommendations on scholarships or how to save on tuition when out of state?

Any recommendations on professors?

I have stats, so I have to sub a course for that- anyone do the same?

Class doubling up- with which is wise? What is best to do on their own?

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks!

GCU RN-BSN program has 5 week classes. You might be able to double classes if you are not working, however I do not see it possible if you are working full time. Doubling classes does not make a difference on the cost because the cost is per credit hour. You can check out the scholarships offered by the Nurse Corps. However, you have to work in an under served area for 2 yrs in return.

Thank you Owethu123. With doubling classes my only intention was to finish sooner. I will be working full time, so that is a good point you make. I'll look into Nurse Corps, but I'm already employed and i'm not sure if they would be listed as an underserved area. Thank you again!

Welcome Drea. I too am taking classes at gcu. Currently in my 4th class. I agree with Owethu. I was thinking about the same thing about doubling classes while working. I am ssooo happy that I didn't do that. It should be alright. But it would be better if you were to have a class buddy that you can "go to class together". Moral support, vent, ETOH from time to time...j/k. :geek:

You can't double until after the 4th class, and then with permission. JRich on another link doubled for one class. She was a very busy person, but didn't have a lot of personal obligations. There was no way I could with the homework involved, work and family.

However, I did buddy up with a person from AN and we have now become friends. :) It was nice to have each others back in the CLC and a different take on the syllabus. When I was so sick with food poisoning, she took the entire editing job we were to do together and did it pretty much did my part as well as hers for editing.

I graduate in 5 weeks. You really don't want to double up. These are some time-intensive classes. They are 5 week classes so it will not take you long anyway. You can take up to 2 weeks off between classes but I only did that once. I just kept on going. I was done in a year. I already had statistics so took an alternate course. As far as instructors, MOST of mine were great! My academic adviser was terrific too. She calls me every few weeks to check on me. I am going to take a few months off and then I am going to apply to GCU for my Masters in Nursing Informatics. Good luck to you...

Wow Vokaybo! That is so awesome!! Maybe you can Private Message me the name of your instructors that you had. I am about to go into my 4 class of my BSN. I would have to hate taking a class with this last instructor and would just rather avoid it I could.

Thanks and Congratulations!!

vokaybo, that is great that you're done! Congrats. Thanks for the info about the Capstone instuctor. I will keep that in mind.

I am in class number 8 of 12. I agree that that doubling up would be really intense. The 5 weeks goes by so fast. See if your employer has a partnership with GCU. Mine does and I get a 15% discount on each class.

They used to offer a 2000.00 discount for joining the ANA, but I don't think they offer it anymore. Never hurts to check.
