I used Elsevier Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Review 4th ed, McGraw Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams (I didn't like this one as much) and the Pocket Prep App. Whatever I was fuzzy on I searched youtube for more information until I "got it". Mostly just lots and lots of time studying. Lots of sacrificing and less tv and facebook.

Oh cool! Thanks

Hey everyone,

I plan on applying for the ADN program in the fall. I had to retake AP 1, AP 2, English, and Pharmacology over the summer and fall. I received an A in all classes. It had been 9 years since I took the classes the first time. I took the hesi back in September and got a 72% in A&P. I was so upset, I didn't even finish the other sections on the exam lol. So I blew my chances for Spring 2018. I took the hesi again today and my overall was a 90.8! I was so happy! If anyone has any questions, feel free.

That's a great score would you mind sharing how the questions were? Especially the A&P because some said it's hard while others said it's basic. It also might depend on how well one studies.

The questions are very broad, but very specific. If that makes any sense. To be completely honest, it wasn't that hard. I studied differently this time for A&P and it paid off. I got a 92% on that section. I would say definitely know all the body systems, the bones, the 5 senses and how they function, the main arteries, I was also asked a random question about nearsightedness. I watched YouTube videos to study since I'm very visual and I also bought a study guide to apply the information from the videos.

All right thanks!

How is everyone with their Hep B shots & titer? I will be starting the accelerated series once school starts again.

Yes that was close to the cut off score for last year. My score was 7.55. I got in and just failed my 1st semester. As they say, I underestimated the beast.

Sorry to hear that. Don't give up! I am terrified and don't know what to expect. You always hear how hard nursing school is, but no one can explain it. Do you mind sharing your opinion on the difficulty?

In my opinion I just wasn't ready. I have 4 kids and babysitting issues always happened. My husband works out of town ALOT. So I had no extra help. I would study while cooking dinner and after they went to bed/ before they woke up. My 2 year old has just started sleeping through the night about 2 weeks now. My 3rd is starting school in August and I want to give it another shot. This is my dream to become a nurse. I've been a CNA for about 7 years and wanted to "move up". For the school part, I could hardly ever make it to study groups or even have a study group. Which in my case was absolutely necessary. There were a few students who said studying in groups wasn't for them and they did really good. My clinical groupgot Clinical on Saturday. So the other 3 groups got to study through the weekend while my group did a 6am-4 ish pm. It's possible I just had too much on my personal plate. The instructors are amazing. They helped out as much as they could & if I do re apply this year im definitely going to use their advice on coming to them more often. This time I felt I guess the word is embarrassed to go ask questions since it seemed like everyone knew the answer except me! Skills lab is so much fun! I want to give it another go but my husband is telling me to wait at least another year so we shall see if I can be patient or when I re take the Hesi if my scores good enough to apply. Sorry so long but that's the way it worked out for me this last semester. I cried like a big baby for failing. I even gave up nursing as my dream. But I'm over that crazy thought and will be back at it again.

I did better than I thought I would and it was harder than expected. It took me 5 hours of the 5 1/2. I made sure to slow down and really take my time b/c I didn't want to have to take it again.

My scores were:

Reading Comprehension: 96%

Grammer: 94%

Vocabulary: 96%

Math: 100%

A&P: 96%

Composite score: 96.4%

Critical Thinking: 960

I have to admit that I studied all this last semester while I was taking A&P so I think that helped.

I plan on applying to Montgomery Lonestar but I'm considering Tomball b/c their NCLEX pass rate is a little higher I believe.

Awesome score you'll definitely be in with that score!

Great to hear you are not giving up! I understand not being prepared and just not having things in order to succeed. It has taken me forever to get prepared because life kept happening. Thanks for sharing your experience. I kind of agree with your husband. You want to make sure things are different next time, so the outcome is different. Don't give up on your calling.

You can take the exam at the Montgomery campus. It is first come, first serve. I took the test there today and I got right in. :)

You didn't have to register before hand?

You didn't have to register before hand?

I paid and registered online 2 weeks before I wound up taking it. You don't need an appointment for the testing center but you do need to pay and register for the test. I had to wait about 7 min. to get set up once there.
