Nursing Students School Programs

Hello all,

I just received a letter from saying that my application for the ACE program is now complete and I'm waiting for a response. I was wondering if anyone else here is applying for the same program and received an acceptance letter already?:uhoh3: I'm trying to be patient but I wish I knew how long it will take...

Hello Guys,

This is a repeat of an earlier post concerning waitlist for the Fall ACE progam. Do you guys know of anyone who got on the waitlist in the past but was eventually accepted? Am on the waitlist and just don't know how to go about attaining more information about the list(i.e. what number I am on the list or how often the list is updated)

Any information about the ACE waitlist will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys:)

Here's the copy and paste from the other thread I replied to:

I don't know anything about a wait list, but I do know that for our class, too many people accepted admissions. The school offered several people $10K towards tuition to delay to the next cohort but I think everyone said no, so they might be more cautious now about giving out seats to make sure they don't over-enroll.

Thanks for the reply hiddencat. I really hope it works out for us on the waitlist!

hi,

i just have a quick question in regards to book list for mental health, pathophysiology, and health promotion. would you recommend getting the books for these three classes?

health promotion (nurs 102)

1) medical terminology: a short course (chabner) - did you use these?

2) health promotino throughout the life span (edelman) - did you use this?

mental health (nurs 308)

1) essential of psych. mental health (required book)

2) review and rationale book - did you find it helpful? as this was an optional book.

patho (nurs 339)

essential of patho (required)

i'm more concern with the health promotion books as the class seems like a med. term class compared to patho and mental health.

also, if anyone is selling these books, please let me know. i may be interested in buying.. :)

thanks everyone!!

i used health promotion and continue to do so- it's definitely not a medical terminology class, but very foundational for all your other clinical skills classes. get a copy used though- they're available very cheaply. i don't recognize the mental health books or the patho book (we didn't take that class in the ace program).

ley6451,

The terminology book you will need because basically all of the medical terms tested will be from the book. As for the mental health reviews and rationale, I didn't find it too helpful. I would recommend the mental health success book instead.

BTW, for some reason, I couldn't reply to your PM, so here's a list of the books I have. To be honest, I think most of the books I have is an older edition but it should still be useful because lots of professors don't update their powerpoints to go with the newer text.

Potter and Perry Fundamentals

Weber Health Assessment

Nursing Care Plans

Lewis Med-Surg

Hi HiddenCat,

Thanks for the response! Interesting, I didn't know that Mental Health and Patho wasn't taught in the ACE program. I am in the co-op program and just finish the 2nd quater, which consist of Adult I, Pharm I, and Nutrition 2. I have say this quarter was hard, but compared to those in the ACE program, it must have been difficult to juggle everything.

Thanks for the info on Health Promotion. I guess I didn't think too much of it consider it's a NURS 102 compared to the other two.

Do you have any advice in regards to Health Promotion? Was it a hard class?

Thanks!

We have mental health, just not patho. Mental health was a different book than the one you listed. I'm not reading too closely, because I thought you were talking ab out health assessment, not health promotions! Sorry about that. I'd definitely skip the health promotions book. I used a different medical terminology book and followed the quizes and other practice material on blackboard and was fine with the terms.

Thanks, HiddenCat!

You have been very helpful. I guess I'll wait until next week to see how the class goes. I'm taking Patho, Mental Health, Health Promotion, and Genetics. I hope it's nothing like Pharm, and Adult. Then again I have Pharm II and Adult II in the summer.. eek..

Has anyone completed anytime in the accelerated program? I begin in the fall (2010) and I was wondering what students think of the program so far.

Hi! I just applied for the spring of 2011 and was wondering if anyone has taken pre-reqs at BCC and could tell me if the chem 107 and 108 lecture and lab classes tranfer over. I'm having trouble getting anyone from to tell me if they will, so if anyone has taken those classes and knows the answer I would appreciate it very much!

lhlexus2, you can definately search previous pages, there were a LOT discussion about this program in depth. I know I did my search prior to beginning in Fall of 2008. No matter what peopel tells you, the program is difficult, BUT if you put in the time and effort, you will be fine.

As for the chem credits transfer over. As long as the course name/description says Chem I, and/or Chem I (for science majors) then you should be fine. Just make sure that it is 4 credits and not anything less. Alternatively, if you live in the area, has an info session on May 26th and June 23rd, I'm sure you'll get someone there live to answer your questions.
