Drexel University ACE Spring 2010

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello all,

I just received a letter from saying that my application for the ACE program is now complete and I'm waiting for a response. I was wondering if anyone else here is applying for the same program and received an acceptance letter already?:uhoh3: I'm trying to be patient but I wish I knew how long it will take...

Hey guys,

In case you haven't checked your email, the spring 2010 book list is here!

I am a co-op grad of the program. Top 10% of my class in HS and great GPA in the program, never on academic probation and had to take the HESI 6 times!! The stress, aggravation and depression devastated me..I actually had a job waiting at HUP. There was no real remediation...lots of "self study". I did have one and only one professor who was rooting for me, other than that, I just became a statistic, labeled a "failure", and thrown in the trash. I felt perfectly confident that I could pass NCLEX, but HESI failures brought down my self-esteem to the point that I felt like I could never do it. It is great you are all talking about the policy and now they make it known up front. I had paid over $100,000 taken 170 credits, invested 5 years and if I did not pass on my 6th time, they would just dismiss you from the program...no degree at all! At that time I started to research other nursing programs in case I had to transfer and the deans of the surrounding programs did not agree with the policy. It seems the general consensus is Drexel's pass rate is inflated by holding perfectly prepared students for sitting for NCLEX. Hate to be a downer, but it is better to know the facts (and facts they never tell you) up front.

To prior or current student, how strict are the instructors on footwear for clinical? I just purchased a pair of nike white leather sneaks but the swoosh is black and they have a small black trim above the sole and i was hoping these would be acceptable as they are super comfy. I have a friend who graduated from Jeff's nursing program and they're on the fence whether they'll pass or not.

I think you'll probably be fine. I haven't had an instructor yet who would care. Most people I know wear long sleeved tshirts under their scrubs and I have a very visible tattoo I don't always keep covered and that's technically all against the dress code. You can always buy another pair of shoes if those don't work, but why buy another pair if you might not need to?

As far as second quarter, for me the big thing is juggling courseload. There's more reading and material and it's all more substantive than in Q1. Many classmates are struggling with the NCLEX style questions. But it was more overwhelming the first part of the quarter than it is now, even though I'm studying for finals, so I think my issue is, as always, one of keeping things balanced and organized so things will always seem hectic to me at first.

Which email? or private? I haven't received the schedule or any book list yet. Anyone else having problems accessing drexel webmail / drexone? Lol it gives me a username and password I punch it in and it says I am wrong.

Also I was having trouble finding H1N1 and Seasonal Flu, so I called and apparently if you don't have them you might miss out on the pediatric clinical rotation... I ended up finding a CVS off of Harbison that had both! I also went to a urgent care clinic on levick for other blood work etc. that I needed since I don't have insurance it was relatively cheap. It was a little more than the drexel one but I needed to get some blood drawn so it made more sense to just go to one place.

It was from the account. I'll try to PM it to you.

The pediatric clinical rotation is not first quarter,is it? My dr. also ran out of the vaccines as well.

got your private msg... for some reason i can't reply to them? but ya i will call and get my one thing fixed on monday. Not sure when the pediatric rotation is but it was $33 bucks at the harbison ave cvs right off the blvd. there was also some more places in nj etc. Not sure what will happen if missing them, it seems silly to me bc flu season is over? but whatever

Any other previous acer's have the Calculate with Confidence book for sale?

Ok, there is a clinic on Broad and Lombard where I got both my flu shots... and as far as I know, it was free. They didn't charge me. They never mentioned to me that they were running out or anything either (I was having a lovely conversation with the nurse there about all my immunizations).

Flu season might be "over" but the flu is still running around! It's never really gone and if you are doing a pediatrics rotation, it's super important not to bring any of those viruses into the hospitals where the kids can easily get sick, their immune systems are both not fully developed and already compromised being in the hospital for whatever reason.

Question about shoes: Do they need to be all white, as in, the brand name/symbol on the side needs to also be white, or does that part not matter?

Question about the scrubs for clinical: do we need to wear a certain color or can we just get any scrubs?

We have a specific uniform. Need to go to Central Uniforms to get it. I went today and ordered my stuff, it should take 2 weeks. Found out about shoes, they need to be all white no other colors on the side or anything.

Do we need to buy everything on the Uniform site (lab coats, goggles, stethescope), or just the scrubs? Also on the booklist, for Nurs 200, is buying "Fundamentals of Nursing SKills Guide and skills performance" the same as buying both "Fundamentals and Nursing" and "Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques"?
