Hmm..I can see it on the drop down list for degree program though. That's weird because the school site does say it still has the program.

You can or you can't see it? It's weird. Tell me I'm not the only one

I'm going to post a picture to see if we are talking about the same thing.

Are you asking about the drop down list that I clicked on here? If so, then I am also confused about that.

The first list that says "Degree Program" seems to have the ETP program. Is it different for you? I'll probably call Columbia tomorrow.

Apparently I'd checked "yes" on "are you a nurse?" Or my answers aren't saving properly? You can tell I'm already stressing. So I'm good with the first one, but the second is confusing me as well. Let us know what they say :)

So you're saying that you checked "yes" earlier, right? Yeah, this program is for non-nurses so I think that's why you weren't able to view the ETP option.

I called about the DNP/PhD thing and I was told that we aren't required to choose either of those at the time of application, but we can if we are thinking of continuing on that path down the line. Same thing goes for the sub-specialty.

Here are answers to other things I asked in case anyone wants to know:

-When it says three letters of rec, it's three MAX. I was unsure earlier because the checklist on the website says we can have a backup recommender too, but that's just in case one of the three people does not reply in time or something.

-GRE scores have to be sent by ETS, but I think Columbia will inform us if they don't receive it. (I sent mine at the beginning of the year when I took the GRE). For the application though, they'll be looking at the scores we enter.

-We don't enter our grades in for the pre-reqs, just when we took them. I suppose they'll be looking at the grades on our transcript.

That's about it. I may call later if I have more questions.

Right now I'm quite nervous about the essay... There's so much I want to write in a two page limit! I especially am not fond of questions like these: "Please provide an assessment of your personal characteristics including strengths, weaknesses and areas you are working to improve. Describe how these characteristic influence your interactions and how others view you."

Hope we get accepted! That would make this process worth it, haha!

hey everyone,

Where are you all seeing the essay topic? I feel like a moron but I do not see it anywhere on the application, in any of the sections! I think I'm going crazy.

also, what's everyone's background leading up to the decision to apply to ETP? Just curious what the applicant pool looks like!

It should be in the essay section or something. I don't have the application open right now but it's around the middle part of it. Maybe you can upload a picture to show us what your application page looks like.

Pretty worried about my background :( I was a bio major and I did do some volunteering in the past, but right now I don't have a job because it's hard to find work with just a B.S. in bio. This is my #1 school choice so I really want to get accepted, haha

Hi! I am very excited to join and be a part of the 2015 ETP community!

I was a bio major myself...undergrad and graduate. At this time I am employed in academia and have also had some experience in scientific research. My mother was a nurse and nursing was my first major before I decided that I was interested in science.

What has led me to nursing? I've worked as a CNA in the past as well as volunteered at a hospital. I love academia but I enjoy healthcare more and ultimately would like to do both.

Seems like you have more experience than I do, haha... Good luck!

Still stressing over my essay! I don't like this.

Did anyone do the addendum essay? I was told that it's not required. I'm not even sure what to put there.

Hey all! Not sure if this is the space to do this, but I am currently in the Columbia ETP program and would love to answer any questions you have about the program or the application process from a current student's perspective. I'm in the midwifery track, though I won't be able to offer much insight on that since the ETP year focuses on just nursing fundamentals. I am originally from California and majored in English lit, so I can also answer questions about moving, housing, and being in an entirely new world/field. Good luck on your applications!

Hi bettybones, I definitely have some questions for you- thanks for offering to help us out!

I'm pretty new to this whole field, but know it is something I want to pursue, after graduating a couple of years back with a B.A in Communications. However, the application process is definitely stressing me out/confusing me. First of all, I have a feeling Columbia is a bit of a reach for me, not so much because of my grades, which were pretty good in my undergraduate years, and also good for the prerequisites…I think I have a GPA between 3.5-3.7 on prereqs. However, I am totally lacking in experience in the field. I am going to start volunteering at a hospital this fall, but feel like it won't be enough for when the application is due in November. Anyway, I would love some insight on your own experience in applying and being accepted into the program. Any tips you can give, etc?

Also, I am kind of confused about picking the specialty. I think I'd like to be a women's health nurse, but I am not sure if that means I pick Nurse Midwifery in the clinical specialty box or if I can pick Family Nurse Practitioner and then Women's Health as the sub-specialty. Sorry if I sound totally clueless right now! I will be attending an info session soon, so hopefully I can get some of my questions answered then, but in the meantime any help you could give me would be great!

Thanks again!!
