Columbia BSN/MSN ETP 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. :( I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.

Futureeastcoast, I'm a regular MSN applicant to PNP primary. I have 4yrs NICU experience, BSN gpa 3.9 and GRE 167v/162m/5w. Which program are you applying to!

Does anyone know the estimated cost of just the BSN portion of the ETP? I have read on here that it's around $100,000 with room and board, but that room and board costs $25,000 and they give another $25,000 scholarship to almost everyone .. which would bring it to $50k but then someone said off-campus students should expect to pay $36k total? I am sure we will know more once we know if we are in but I'm curious!

Hi grace33! I'm applying to the FNP program, stats similar to yours (slightly lower GRE, but 4.0 GPA), except NO RN experience (can't get a job in NYC).

I hope not everyone for the MSN has stats like yours! When they said 50th percentile was competitive for GRE I thought getting 90th would really help me but it seems all the other applicants have insanely high stats!

When I attended the open house they were emphatic that they "just want to see that you can test well" and reach the 50th percentile. They also put a lot of emphasis on the essay and hitting the important points while still keeping it fresh and unique. I was happy to hear that they accept all qualified applicants with no cap on admissions for PNP and I believe FNP as well. CRNA is another animal in that I believe they only have a certain number of slots. Best of luck to you!

Hey guys! Only 2 weeks away ? Best of luck to everyone! I've never felt so anxious before.

Grace: I'm applying to Peds ? My stats are not as awesome as yours but I studied medicine and have lots of clinical experience. Hopefully that holistic approach will give me a shot!

Stay Positive! ?

Fingers crossed that we all make it in!! Obviously, I think that it's a great program with amazing people running it. They made it a point to say that we are competing with ourselves and they try to look at the individual. They even gave stories of people who were accepted with low GPA AND GRE scores, but the essay did it. Also, stories of people with near-perfect GPA/GRE scores and were denied, because of bad essays. One person apparently started their essay with "I really wanted to be a doctor, but I am settling for nursing... " yeah... about that... Another wrote an essay about a book that had nothing to do with nursing = awkward! Just thought I'd share what I heard at the open house and Diversity open house.

So Columbia, hurry up and decide, already! :nailbiting:

I called the admission office and they told me that applications are being reviewed as we speak. i also heard that before they even look at your application, your essay is reviewed, they like a story within your essay something that let them know who you are in a condense 2 page paper. You may have low GPA'a and GRE score and get in because you had an amazing essay. So, if you know that you put your all into your essay then you know that your chances are HIGH. Good luck everyone ! and i know that we will all get in and embark upon a journey of success.

All this talk on essays made me go back and read my own essay haha. @KimiOren2 did admissions say roughly when we would hear? I know february is a few weeks away but I am so anxious to hear now I keep checking my application anyways!

@Mecks625 First week of February estimated cause Orientation is May 28 and first day of class is June 2!

I just went back and read my essay again too! these next few weeks can't go by fast enough!!

hey! I applied to the CNM specialization . . . heard it was the hardest to get into along with the CRNA. i've read a lot of posts on this website of people applying to this program from previous years . . . makes me feel like my resume/CV/stats don't measure up by ffaarrrrr! hehe >.

what do you guys think? do i have a chance at all? >

good luck to all of you! i think we have like 2 - 3 weeks left to find out?

I don't see a change in my status from "submitted". However, I did contact admissions some time ago, and they assured me that my application was waiting for a decision. So, I wouldn't read too deeply into any changes on the website. But, as droux said, at least there is some discernible activity. :)

yea, i didnt see any change in my status either! i emailed them today . . . hope it gets fixed.
