Columbia BSN/MSN ETP 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. :( I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.

hey! I applied to the CNM specialization . . . heard it was the hardest to get into along with the CRNA. i've read a lot of posts on this website of people applying to this program from previous years . . . makes me feel like my resume/CV/stats don't measure up by ffaarrrrr! hehe >.

My Profile =

Dual BAs from a UC (psych & econ) with a GPA 3.08 (graduated 2 yrs ago)

Prereqs GPA from 2 community colleges of 3.6 & 3.67

~800 hours of volunteering at hospitals across the Bay Area

GRE scores = 1040 total | 390V (28%ile) | 750Q (75%ile) | 4AW (54%ile)

TEAS scores = Adjusted Individual Total Score 86% | 96%ile total rank

what do you guys think? do i have a chance at all? >

good luck to all of you! i think we have like 2 - 3 weeks left to find out?

You never know. :-) My fingers are crossed for you! Columbia is my first choice, too! :-)

My status has been updated and now all my application materials have a check next to them (GRE verification dated 01/10/14). Prior to Jan 10th my application materials had red x's next to them as if they were missing, even though I know there were not. Things are definitely moving along now! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know how we will be notified? via email, snail mail, or do we just log on the application portal to view the decision? I'm sooo excited for February!

I believe its email notification.

Mine have all had green checks for a long time. I'm nervous!

I'm so happy to find this thread! I am planning to apply this fall. The application is due November 15 and I am already excessively perseverating. I'm 28, graduated in 2008 with a BA in Contemporary Arts - design & photography. I have since been working in visual merchandising in retail. I cannot sufficiently express how badly I want to get into this program. The deadline is 10 months away and I am already obsessing. I am worried that my undergrad transcripts will not be good enough and I am worried about taking the GRE's. I am not sure what to write for the essay. I'd like to write about my experience as a patient in an eating disorder treatment center, and the impact that the nurses had on me. My nurse practitioner there was beyond brilliant and so wonderful. Even though I fear judgement in writing about myself and those struggles, I feel like it's the real answer as to why I want to become a nurse.

Any thoughts? (I fully intend on combing through all 12 pages of posts in this thread for all information that I get.)

Good luck to everyone!

i'll be more than happy to share - in february.(I will have more of an idea about what worked or didn't) For now, buy some GRE books and/or take a course. I used Magoosh and a few books. The essays are specific in form, so make sure you know what they want. I believe studying earlier is always better. Get most of your pre-reqs done, because too many incomplete count against you. If they see that you haven't completed a good portion of the pre-reqs by the end of the fall semester, they find it hard to believe that it will be accomplished by orientation. So, good luck to you and I would be more than happy to chat with you about common concerns, because we share similar backgrounds.

Go for it didn't have an eating disorder but had a similar hospital case and I wrote it with all my heart take a chance

@allisonnn - Divobari2's insight on GRE prep is spot on. I wish I found Magoosh a bit earlier in my study plan (they have plans on their blog too!) I would also suggest combing through threads from previous year's. Though there isn't a perfect equation for acceptance, it'll help give valuable insight on the variety of applicants that have applied. I think you can tie in your life experiences into the essay as long as the specifics are being addressed. You sound quite motivated and passionate - go for it! :)

Loving all the positivity on this board! Good luck everyone!! I have a pint of ice cream on standby. It'll be either celebratory or for consolation, lol! :nailbiting:

Hi Everyone! I am so glad to have found this thread, as I am new to allnurses. I have also applied to ETP 2014 FNP track...haven't heard anything back, though it does appear they have received everything they need. I am a bundle of nerves! Knowing that there are others out there in a similar situation as me is very comforting. I feel like this whole process of applying to grad schools has been very isolating. I go about my (very busy) life, and most people have no idea that I am waiting to hear on a decision that may totally change everything for me.

Quick question, maybe someone can point me in the right direction if this isn't the right thread...Have any of you submitted your FAFSA? For Columbia's 1st year we would be considered 5th year undergraduates, other programs that are direct entry would be 1st year graduate...anyone else run into this problem if applying to multiple direct entry programs? I am stressing about getting my 2013 taxes done so I can submit my FAFSA ASAP...and then I ran into this issue...Thanks for any feedback :)

Hey! Welcome welcome!

Submit FAFSA asap! Lol the earlier the better. Yes 5th year undergrad. Do your taxes. Distract yourself until feb (when columbia replies) with things you can handle now before it gets overwhelming. Good luck!

@ariahealingarts hey! I have been having the same concerns for the FAFSA... I even called them but the woman was absolutely no help. I think she didn't understand why I would be applying to both undergrad and grad programs so she was annoyed by my questions. She did say, however, that you can change your FAFSA... So I went ahead and filled it out as fifth year senior because the majority of the programs I applied to thus far are BSN/MSN programs, and then I will see if I can change my form to grad student. I don't know if it's the smart way to handle it, but it's the only thing I figured I could do.

Also for the taxes, on the FAFSA you can still fill it out without your 2013 taxes being finished (there is an option where you say you haven't filed them but you will) and then if your income etc. are similar to 2012 you can answer with your 2012 tax info. Then submit it. FAFSA will send you an email telling you that once you finish your 2013 taxes to just update your answers on FAFSA. I think it is better to get it in so you can get financial aid information quicker from schools. But I guess if its harder to find your 2012 tax info then continue to try and finish your 2013 taxes :)

I hope this helped... and made sense haha. I also hope if there is a better way to handle the undergrad vs grad thing for FAFSA someone can offer more suggestions!!

AH we are so close to hearing!! In one week it will be the last day of january!!

Hello nurses/nursing students and (hopefully) future nurses!

I have a question for ETP students in the program or that finished the program. How are the classes like in regards to taking your textbooks to class, following the syllabus, being able to record lectures, use of ipad/iphones, etc... I was wondering what bag you guys recommend? Any tips for using the libraries or gym on campus? Any study advice or heads up you'd like to pass along? :p

If anyone get's a chance to answer this, I'd really appreciate it. Always nice to hear from our upperclassmen.

Good luck to US all! bye yall
