afraid of online nursing school...

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am toying with the idea of doing online vs. traditional nursing school. The majority of my undergrad has been online, and I've skated by, somehow maintaining excellent grades. I'm really worried about enrolling in an online program. I'm afraid to fail. I feel like I'd be losing valuable experience that I would get in the traditional setting. Interactions, experience, clinicals, etc..Anyone else?

How do you get your clinical hours in?

It depends...some programs will let you do your clinicals at a locally approved hospital..others may require you to travel to specific place.

Unless you have a clinical background and have experience work with patients, do a tradition program. You want the best clinical experience you can get in a structured setting. You also want hands on skill labs. Nursing is a hands on job, you can't learn it just from reading.

Here in Texas, you have to travel to do your clinicals. If you go to an online school say in San Antonio your clinicals will be in Dallas or Houston for the weekend so you would have to stay there since it's couple hours away. I would look into how they do their clinicals. It also helps if you already have a medical background cuz Who you going to ask for help when you get stuck or don't really understand something. Good luck!!
