writing policy & procedure

by scma

hello everyone,

Who develops the P&P in your office? (private practice) I work in private practice and have been promoted to Head Nurse of a 4 location hem/onc office. In 25 years we never had a head nurse or charge nurse.

Look forward to speaking with you.

Kimberly

Kimberly,
I cannot offer you any advice; however, I started in a private outpatient chemotherapy infusion center approx. 3 months ago. There are no written policy and procedures for the infusion center. When I asked for them I was told that a nurse at another site is a veteran chemo nurse with 20 + years of experience and that is who we draw our information from. This is spooking me quite a bit. There are things we do that are not ONS recommendations. I am shocked that administration feels it necessary to have a employee handbook for you to sign within the first week; but when it comes to patient/nurse safety....there's nothing.
