My husband is 46 years old and had a bowel resection to remove a tumor. Class 3 adenocarcinoma. Tomorrow finishes his first week of chemo. The maxeran just isn't working.(20mg).He is a brittle diabetic too, and his bs's are way out of wack. He ranges from15.4 - 1.4. big sweats with both. Course he doesn't even want to look at food. Any suggestion for the nausea??Thanks in advance for you help.

There are multiple options for antiemetics. The one's most often used in our practice are Compazine, Zofran, Anzamet and Kytril (least to most expensive). Every patient responds differently to the anti-emetics and many times it is just a matter of trying until you find the most effective one. Remember hydration is extremely important to help with the nausea. Good luck!!

I had chemotherapy 4 years ago, and they gave me Zofran or Kytril as a premed. They both worked very well. I have also eaten small pieces of crystallized ginger (buy in a specialty food store) to control the nausea. Encourage your husband to drink as much as he can tolerate; and, try to eat small amounts of bland food throughout the day. I certainly pray that his treatments will be successful and he will be on his way to a full recovery.
