Re: outpatient cancer centers
I am a CMA at a Cancer Center.
Our nurses on a given day have assigned 4-10 patients depending on the day. Most patients will come at their appointment time, see a Dr, and the go to the "tx room".
The tx can last from 10 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the drug.
many of the patients have Port-caths for access. Some have to have IV's.
CMA's can do basic labs on non-tx patients.
Most days there are Rx refills needed, tracking down the Dr. for orders, and lots of phone calls.
A back ground in Onc. nursing and IV experience is a plus.
