New to Oncology (and all) Nursing

I am a new nurse and have lucked into a job in the field I wanted to work in - Oncology. But I'm suddenly frightened that I'll suck. I didn't learn that much in school to begin with and have forgotten most of what I did learn.

Any advice on good books?

Any one thing you wish all new Oncology Nurses knew?

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

check out this website:

www.ons.org - has a wealth of onc. information!

I read "Psychosocial Nursing Care Along the Cancer Continuum" and learned a TON about what CA patients go through on a daily basis. You can purchase the book on the above website.

This is a little concerning. You are saying that you didnt learn much in school, and you dont remember much of what you learned, but you are willing to try to treat terminally ill patients. you may want to reevaluate taking the position

I definitely feel the same way! I've been told that no matter what, the first year is always hard. Just stick it out and in the end it'll really pay off. Good luck!
