Chloraprep vs. Alcohol prep

With central lines (ie. Groshong, Hickman, internal portacaths, or double/single external catheters, ect) what do you use to clean the hub prior to medication administration, blood draws, ect...

I have used providone-iodine(betadine) wiped off with an alcohol pad, Chloraprep only, and alcohol prep pads only. Policy states wiping off with alcohol is sufficient, and I just don't think that kills all the germs.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

Alcohol preps are fine. Scrub the hub for 15 seconds for maximal effect.

This I do not know. Check your facility's procedure to be sure.
