I'm A Nurse In Baltimore, Maryland. I Requested A Dept. Change That Requires A 2-day Oncology Course According To The "hr" Manager With No Recommendations. Does Any On Have Any Recommendations Where I May Get This 2-day Course? I Have Already Contacted Maryland Nurses Assoc.-nothing, Several Colleges, Universities, With No Results. So If Any Of My Brothers And Sisters Have Any Suggestions And Recommendations It Will Be Received With Great Apprication. Thank You, And Have A Blessed Day. Norma:)

I do not know about classes there but I took my classes at an oncologist Dr. office that was affiliated with the hospital I was working at.

Check out www.ons.org/nursinged . There are several online CE courses. HR might give you credit for the 'two-day course' if you can take several of these online courses that will add up to 16 hours or so. It would be worth asking them, especially if you aren't finding any courses locally.

The 2 day biotherapy course was also a requirement of my Oncology department. But....my hospital arranged it for me through the ONS. One of our NM's is certified by ONS to teach and she did the two day class. The manual is really good and I learned a lot.

i'm not sure about the Baltimore area but I live in Northern VA and the INOVA hospitals offer them 2-3 times a year. Also the hospital in Winchester VA offers the class a couple times a year. I would think Hopkins would offer it as well. It is a national certification so you should be able to take it anywhere... not MD specific. If you have not obtained it yet, let me know and I'll keep an eye out for you for the INOVA classes. Your best bet would probably be at Fairfax. You could also ck out ONS and see if they have a schedule and places for the classes.

Hi! Here what you're looking for... I am a new grad. and I am working in an outpatient cancer clinic. This is the one that our hospital requires. http://onsopcontent.ons.org/education/distanceeducation/Chemo2Day/registration.shtml

I am enrolled in a class in September. If you don't take one before then, I will let you know how it was. The nurses I work with said that it's pretty easy and the second day you take an open book test. There is also a ONC certification that you can get, but you have to have so many hours before you can take it. (for that you would look on the ONS website). Let me know if you need something else. Good luck!
