Why are you a nurse?

If all goes as planned, I'm hoping to begin nursing school in a year and I LOVE coming on this site to read all of your stories, jokes, etc. Soooo much information as well as entertainment!

However....I know several nurses and it is split about 50/50 as to who loves their job and who HATES it.

I know why I want to be a nurse and I'm certain that my reasons will change and/or grow as I continue on the journey....
    But my question is this....

Why are each of YOU nurses?

Are your reasons the same as they were in the beginning?

Do you love it or hate it? Or neither?

Did you have idealistic viewpoints that were immediately shattered?

    Would you do it again?

    What are you thankful for?

Any and all viewpoints, opinions, thoughts, suggestions, and sentiments are appreciated!!
    Thanks so much!

    1. Because I'm modestly proficient in assessment & care delivery. I began as an EMT/Phleb, and worked my way up. Also, because when I tell someone that what they are doing is maladaptive, dysfunctional, ignorant and blatantly stupid, they can no longer dismiss me as an Elitist(noun of your choice). I am an educated Elitist (noun of choice).
    2. Yes, generally its an interesting field.
    3. I hate stupidity, which is integral to an MBA managed care-delivery model. I tolerate what I have to, and marginalize the rest.
    4. No, I'm a pretty objective realist.
    5. Absolutely!
    6. God's grace, in bringing me into contact with excellent mentors, when so many in the field are uninterested or unable to teach.
