RN starting salary in OKC

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I really have no clue how much new grads are making starting out. I've heard about $18/hr base plus differentials--does that sound about right? How much does the average RN with experience make after a few years?

Thunderwolf,

For clarification....I have NOT recruited at all. I have not mentioned (nor do I intend to) the facility I work for. I am here to read any info on my profession that interests me. If I can be of help to nursing students or others who have questions, I will be happy to help with information.

First and foremost, I am a nurse.

Thank you for the clarification.

It only raised a little concern, but I needed to mention it.

Thank you for the assistance. That is what we are all here for.

Hi marilyn,

I have privately sent you some answers to your questions. I hope they help! I would like to add a thought to your question about having a choice on the unit you will work if you have taken a scholarship....As a Nurse Recruiter, I want any RN who I help place in a given unit to feel it is the best fit for him/her. I WANT them to be happy with their choice. In my experience, having a scholarship does not limit your choices of specialty.

Good luck!

Thanks for answering! I didn't get an email or PM from you though and would like to :) You can send me a PM or an email by clicking on my user name (marilynmom).

Now in Tulsa, last time I checked (and yes, this was a few years ago), new grads were getting $14.01 at a certain hospital. Not sure of the area of care, nor shift. But OKC may offer a little more.

And those of you in OKC are very lucky to have the only magnet hospital in Oklahoma. :) Don't know if any Tulsa hospitals are moving towards Magnet status.

$14????? WHAT!!?? No freekin way! I hope not!

As I said, this was a few years ago... it's probably way outdated. I can't get salary.com to work for me, but I'm sure that new grads probably make closer to the $18/hr seems more on target. It totally depends also on what the field is as well.

I'd write a bit more but I'm literally about to fall asleepl. :)

Depending on what hospital you work at:

Mercy and Oklahoma Heart HOspital 17/hr

Baptist 17.21/hr

Deaconess 17.45/hr

OU med center 17.60/hr

St. anthonys 17.93/hr

Shift diffs are generally 2 for evenings, 2.5 for nights and 3 for weekends.

These are the bigger hospitals in the city. HOpe this helps

I just graduated and got hired on at OU. It is 9.60 as a nurse partner (while in school), 16.00 as a nurse tech (graduate nurse), 17.60 as a RN with 2.35 evenings, 2.60 nights and 3.00 weekends. I also got a $4K sign on bonus that was tax free if I took it before I graduated.

I know when I was looking at some of the other hospitals, most were the same just their benefits differed. I think the highest hospital is Shawnee Unity and it is like either $18 or $18.50 maybe?

HTH!

That is good to know, thanks.

What exactly is a nurse partner at OU Med Center? I've heard of the program before, what kinds of things do you do? Also, what are the hours like?

Does OU health science center offer tuition reimbursement to their nurses if you attend OU? That sounded kind of confusing, but what I'm trying to ask is if I got a job with them as an LPN and wanted to the LPN-BSN program, will they pay for it? I have considered trying to get on at the clinics here in Tulsa. The pay isn't great, but if I could go to school for free...well it's worth it. But I've been told that St. John's offers complete tuition reimbursement for LPNs to get their RN or BSN so that's where I'll probably end up.

I'm wondering how OKC compares with Tulsa in regards to pay. The $14.01 figure was from a few years ago and I got it from this website. Can't remember which one but it was from this forum.

I'm wondering how accurate salary.com is. Can someone (a current RN or LPN) tell me if salary.com is close what is actually paid in Oklahoma? I've been wondering that for a long time.

Thanks for any help on this...

Kat
