U.S.A. Oklahoma

Hi all. Im considering applying for OCCC traditional pathway RN program for fall of 2015. Im trying to get as much info before my appointment on monday. So my question is... what are the clinical hrs like for each semester? Example semester 1 do you have class 2days/ week and then clinicals 3 days or clinicsls 1 day? I dont want to waste anyones time so if its going to start out at 5days per week i wont try to get in bc i no we cant afford that. Plz help. Thanks.

I'm not too sure but they say to plan on spending at least 40 hours a week doing class, labs, clinicals plus time for studying and reading. Sorry I'm not much help. Are you going to talk with the specific nursing advisor? She is a huge help and can go over your points with you also.

Thanks. I have an appointment monday to talk to a regular advisor. I first have too see if my credits will transfer over from previous colleges in the past and if not i will have a full yr of classes to take b4 i apply to the nursing program. Im just trying to decide if this is the right time for me to go back to school. I have a 2yr old and a 4yr old and work full time so i have alot on my plate. I may have to wait untill my 2 yr old is in school b4 i start back.

I am an OCCC graduate and I will break it down as best as I can for you to the best of my knowledge.

First Semester (NP1) you will have Lecture/Theory 2 days per week (Tue and Thu). You will have Labs on Mondays for the first 10 weeks and Wednesdays as well for the first 4 weeks. They have you learn all your "skills" up front so that when you go to clinical after week 8 (I believe) you will be able to do some stuff. You will have clinical 1 day of the week once they start.

Second Semester (NP2) you will have lectures 2 days per week, and clinical 1 day per week and one day of Lab. I can't remember if you start clinicals right away or not. I think You also don't have as many labs as in NP1.

Third semester (NP3) is also lectures 2 days/week and clinicals 1 day/week and if I remember correctly your clinicals start pretty much right away. You will have simulations instead of labs

Fourth Semester (NP4) is the same as Third semester in terms of amount of days in lectures and clinicals, however, your clinical days are longer. You will also have 3 simulation labs throughout the semester.

This is a very doable program, however be prepared to study hard. It's fast paced, especially in the beginning. I would recommend that you speak with the HEALTH PROFESSIONS adviser, and she is in the Health Professions area of the college. She is great at being able to tell you exactly what you need to know and how to go about getting there. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Good Luck

Thank you so very much. This help alot in my decision to go back to school or to wait untill both of my kids are in school.
