Hello!

Is anyone currently attending OCU? I have applied for the January start date. I'm a little confused because no one on campus can give me a estimate of tuition and books. They said after I enroll they will tell me. I don’t want to enroll if I don’t have the money! With it being private I know its going to be very expensive but if I wait and try to go to a community college there will be a wait list so I figure its best to get in and get it over with so I can start work.

Also, does anyone know of hospitals that will pay for your school? I am trying to decide if I should get loans (I don’t want to though because I have previous student loans I am swimming in) but if it keeps me from being stuck at someplace that I may not like for 2-3 years then I guess its worth it. My goals are to go to school, work for a year, and then travel. So if I do a loan with a hospital I don’t want to be stuck with them for a long time.

Are there any nice apartment complexes around? I drove down to look at the school and it was in a very scary looking area.

Anyone have any words of advice??? I feel a bit lost right now and it seems like I keep running into obstacles!

I was accepted at OCU and had to decline. It was going to cost me $53,000 (just for tuition, not including books, the required laptop, uniforms, etc.) and I have undergrad loans to pay for.

I decided on Grad School instead. (in a different field)

ETA: I was working at Baptist at the time (quit when I realized that nursing wasn't for me) and they pay for about $2,000 per year. So, it would have been a whopping $4,000 toward a $53,000 debt. couldn't do it. I looked into Mercy and they paid about the same. A couple thousand a year seems to be the going rate.

I was wondering was the 53K for the BS to BSN program or just the traditional BSN program. Because I was thinking about going there but not for that price.

OCU is crazy expensive. It wasn't worth the price to me, there are so many other expenses besides the tuition such as the required laptop. I got minimal aid from that school. I rather get my ADN from a community college, and get my RN-BSN through OU. It may take an extra year to get that BSN but at least I won't have to sell my soul to pay back those loans. If I had stayed I would've considering joining the military to offset the loans.

Where does it say 100% NCLEX pass rate? I know when I was looking into OCU my concerns were there pass rates for the past few years: 77%, 63%, 58%, 57% and then they jumped to 92% for 2005.
I went to the
bachelors to BSN program and i know for that program in 2005 was 100% pass rate, the web site pass rate lumps all the programs together, traditional, rn-bsn, etc.... you have to call and get the pass rate for the specific program you are taking....

Ok, I went to OCU for my rn-bsn in 2007, my loans were only for 10,500. I got my work to give me tuition reimbursement which sounded great. But I recently changed jobs and had to pay back my work $7,900 or work there 6 more years.. Good thing I decided to hold on to that tuition assistance money in savings for a moment..

Since there is no waiting list does that mean it's first-come first-serve and whoever doesn't make it in has to wait and try the next semester? If so, how many spots are there and how long is the usual wait?

I understand that OCU admits anyone who meets their criteria but I looked at their website and it indicates that for the the baccalaureate to BSN track, they require a 3.0 GPA which I do not have. I am graduating from OU in the spring with a bach. degree but I will not qualify for OU's Bacc. to BSN program because of my GPA. Does anyone know if OCU admits anyone who does not have a 3.0?

From what the advisor told me, she said everyone who meets the requirements are in. There is no waiting list and it is not first come first serve. If there are many students, they will simply "make room" for them. OCU is no 1 on my list for RN-BSN. Its a little more expensive but I'll pay I think its worth the certainty. Its a good idea to get your eval early.
