Who has done these? I'm planning on doing the anthropology one on Christmas break to meet the cross cultural requirement. Any info on it? How hard is it to do?

I just saw a post yesterday on the board in the thread 4510 Section #15220 is open

Maybe you can PM the person who wrote it.

I took cultural anthropology over the summer. I am not sure it is offered in the winter intercession but I don't know that for sure. My own opinion is that it is 10 days of non stop work. When they say you are taking a full 3 credit hour class in 10 days they are not kidding! The tests were very hard and you have several papers to write. You also have "discussion questions" you have to write a substantial post about after you have watched videos.

My biggest recommendation is that if you decide to take this class--get the book early and read it. You will need to read the entire book! I am glad I took this class now but while I was in it I was questioning my sanity. I considered doing the Ethics class at WOSC but decided to take the 15 week class at OU instead.

Oh wow, maybe I will have to re look at my classes through OU and see if I can squeeze it in there if it's that much work. Someone else had said it wasn't too bad. But I already have a lot going on with 2 kids, one a NB and working part time. Thanks for the info!

Considering the alternative was fashion and culture with a midterm and final, I chose to torture myself for 10 days. I am an overachiever so maybe I made it harder than it should have been. I scored in the 70s on most tests but my grades on my papers pulled me up considerably. I did get an A but I worked extremely hard for that grade! It was a good class but a lot to absorb in a very short time.

I took it and am so glad I did. Get the book early...read it and take notes. The papers are easy to whip out. They don't expect APA and all that...at least my instructor didn't. There are a TON of videos to watch but most are interesting. I just had to write one paragraph after each video session...easy grade. You basically get full credit if you just do it. The instructor told me if I just watched the videos and did the papers it was a C. To get an A requires taking the tests. They were kinda tough...40 questions, timed and thorough. But honestly, it's not that hard to get an A if you just do it. Glad I spent 10 days instead of 5 weeks. He advised me to get the papers done first, then do the videos...tests after all that.

How many hours a day did you spend on it? Could you still work and take the intercession course?

Oh yeah, I was working. I busted my butt on the weekends. But like the other poster I am really anal about grades so I worked hard. The class isn't hard but it does take some time. The tests were the hardest part. The nice thing is you can watch your grade and see where you are in points. When you have enough for the grade you're seeking you can be done. I didn't take the last test and got an A. Just do the videos and EASY papers...do what you can on the tests. A friend of mine took it recently...suffered with some low test scores like I did and still got an A. Go for it! I hear Fashion is brutal!

So you did most of the work on the weekend?

10 day course, that was like 2 weekends? So did you work 8 -10 hours a day?

Yep, I spent long days on it...watched some of the videos after work. Honestly, the write ups on those is VERY brief; no references just proof that you understand the concept. I put a lot of hrs into watching those and reading...gave up on the last of the book like I said and still got an A. Yes, it takes a lot of hrs to do it but for me it was so worth it. It wasn't stressful.

I work full time and spent every evening reading and watching videos or writing the answers to discussions, which were actually summaries. I cranked out the two papers first, then watched the videos and did those responses then took the tests.

The tests has some rather obscure questions and were timed. I was convinced after getting 70s on most of my tests that I was not doing well but the papers must have been more weighted than the tests. I would not try to do all of the work only on the two weekends. My pressure was that I did not get a good start on the book before the class. It took me a bit to figure out Moodle but it is an easy system to navigate!

Thanks for all the input. I definitely do NOT want to do fashion and culture, so I will probably just suffer through it. I'm the same way, I want my A. As long as it's doable, I can make it work. I just want to be done by April as I have planned. I have to do Chemistry still as well, but am planning on taking that through Rio Solado.
