OU RN to BSN...what to expect?

  1. Hello!

I am starting Ohio University's RN to BSN program in February. I know that I should expect to write a lot of papers for this program. What are the professors looking for exactly? What's the average length of the papers and the discussion posts? I am very nervous about starting due to not being a very good writer.

Any info would be extremely helpful!

    Thanks!!

Really not a hard program. I work full time nights and take 1 nursing class per session. I personally wouldn't be able to handle 2 and work at the same time. Lot of papers, mostly 5 pages or so and need to know APA style. They ding you for that, use headings for papers as it is much easier to answer all the topics they are looking for. Discussion boards are easy but tedious. Usually 3 paragraphs and 3 citations, have to respond to 2 peers but all can't be on the same day.
You'll get better with the writing, the first class I thought was the hardest just getting used to writing again and it is all papers.
    Good Luck

I always said their program was more about knowing APA style than anything nursing related. Any points I lost in any classes were related to APA not content. I thought it was easy. Fast paced.

How long did it take for you to complete the program? taking 1 class a session? How long are each session? I will be completing my RN soon and looking now for a school to complete my BSN

It really depends on how many GE classes you need. I needed 3, and I started in January, and I will finish in December.

How is it going? Do you like the program so far?

It took me about 14 months. I was in no hurry.

really 14 months isn't bad. I just submitted my application and am in the process of sending transcripts. I will most likely take one class at a time.
