Paper done.......Ready for week 2?????

Still picking away at the paper. Will take the test Thursday AM

Specializes in PICU.

Did you guys basically just summarize the EHR mandate from the article they provided for us? That is what I am thinking and I am just wondering if that is what most of you thought as well. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would rather re-write the first weeks paper that this one. It is just so boring...

Boring it is...summarize the mandate then incorporate your faciliy's progress towards EHRs and the mandate. Be sure you use 3 other references. And grab the caffeint. Good luck...just submitted mine!

I barely used that boring article. Used 2 from NEJM that actually described EHR mandate. Then used 3 articles from Nursing Mangement and 1 from AJN. Stuff from my facility. Snooze worthy but finished except for the reference page!!

ahhh...Paper submitted. Now to study for that quiz. Has anyone taken it yet?

Done - Aced the quiz ...

Here's a Q&A from this week's assignment for my section:

QUESTION: The learning objectives for the writing assignment state that we should use an "ethical framework to evaluate the impact of policies on health care . . ." and to "examine patient confidentiality in relation to electronic health records and personal health records." In the rubric however, only the latter is mentioned in the grading criteria. Are we required to address health care policies from an ethical perspective in our paper in addition to the EHR elements that are outlined in the rubric? As to the format of the paper, is an abstract required? Are we also required to include introductory and conclusions paragraphs?
RESPONSE: Go back and look at what the assignment is calling for, when you first glance it looks like you only have three objectives, the rubric does address those three objectives but takes the last objective and breaks it into two requirements.

Are these questions out of line or unfair? Am I missing something?

chuckster - I addressed some of those issues under facility plan and progress - about pt's accessing their own records. We are still in the planning stage as that is part of Stage 2 requirements for meaningful use. Challenges to confidentiality - I used our current plan. Who was able to access what and why. I also briefly mentioned certain records that are not made part of the EHR. For my facility - those records are anything to do with sexual assault. All on paper record, not scanned in and pictures are left on a memory card. Placed under 2 locks and keys and only accessed by certain individuals when the court summons' them.

Ehical framework? I used it only as far as confidentiality was concerned. I may be wrong! but most of my paper dealt with EHR requirements and how the hospital is meeting those goals ...

no abstract. Did include intro and conclusion

Thanks rninme, I appreciate the info but really, is it too much to ask of your TA to give you some pretty basic direction on what should be in the paper? There is conflicting information in the posted directions for the assignment and I believe it is the obligation of the TA to provide clarity when this is the case. Worse, to not answer the questions relating to format (is an abstract needed? how about into and conclusion?) I think is really not acceptable. But perhaps I'm being unreasonable.

Yes it is expecting too much! I have found that questions such as those tend not to be answered.

Chuckster, it looks like the "ethical framework and examine patient confidentiality" you mentioned are the objectives. Looking at the rubric makes much more sense. I have always mentioned everything asked of the rubric and have never been dinged on content. As for the abstract, we were given tips for the paper and it clearly mentioned an abstract was not required but the intro and conclusion are. Maybe your TA didn't send you this stuff???? They really do hate to give out information, I guess they want to encourage independence and self-motivation lol. My TA from health appraisal was awesome.

any advice on the quiz rninme
