OU online MSN-NP

I know that several of those who were in the RN-BSN program at Ohio were considering the MSN after graduation.

I'm looking for some feedback from anyone who has enrolled in the MSN program.

I'm in the OU FNP online program now. I'd avoid this program. It's like they just threw it together and said "The students can figure it out." Really poor communication. We're two weeks in to a clinical rotation and some of us don't even have a clinical instructor yet. We're all just kind of winging it and hoping for the best. It's not a very learning focused program. Very limited guidance. The school did NOT think this one through very well. Find another reputable program.

The preceptor issue is kind of puzzling. As I indicated above, I applied to the MSN program at a local college and recently had my interview for admission. My interviewer took care to state that finding a preceptor was the student's obligation and that while the school would provide assistance, they accepted no responsibility. When I asked what would happen in the event a student could not find a preceptor, the interviewer stated that though this had never occurred, it theoretically could result in dismissal from the program.

Had that been made clear right from the beginning of the process, I may have re-thought applying to that particular school. After all, one reason that I chose it was that it was established, traditional university. This may be non-issue however, as the interview did not go particularly well, thus depressing my already slim chance for admission.

I am still looking at possibilities. I was looking at OU, thinking that it would be more comforting to stay with a school I already know. But, yes, they no longer have an MSN in Administration. But, the recruiter continues to call, even after I told her I wasn't interested in a FNP. I think I'll call her back- maybe she has some new information...

I just graduated from OU's BSN and am going on for my MSN (administration/leadership route). I was disappointed that OU no longer has the MSN with the administration focus. I was still going to research their general MSN to see what the difference is between the current degree program offered and the administration degree. I am also looking at Ball State as a possibility. Just curious what other programs you have found that might be worth taking a look at?

Frontier helps students find clinical placement - and their graduates will precept new students. One of my friends just graduated from there, she had to do a lot of the initial leg work to find clinical placement (as there were no local graduates of the program but Frontier took over from there. The FNP program I applied to is one of the few in my state that finds clinical placement for students - and has a full time clincial placement department. They start looking the minute you are accepted - one of the reasons I chose the school. I have also been networking for years!! I know NP's all over the state!!

Chuckster, Did you check on university of southern Indiana? Looks like reasonable tuition even if you are out of state and they have a NP program College of Nursing and Health Professions • Master of Science in Nursing Also Purdue University Calumet has an online FNP http://webs.purduecal.edu/onlineapn/
