Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

SShannon81 I suspect you'll be pleased when you get your final DARS report. Initially I was informed I needed the Jr comp class...2nd report erased that requirement. I do need a cultural diversity course. If students take the Asian studies course the tuition is the same as the nursing classes. If you select a different one the tuition is much more. Of course all those gen ed classes can be taken elsewhere like you're planning. Keep me posted! Be sure and check your DARS online regularly for an update.

deltaroxxy2, I sent you a PM. I think you've made a wise decision to plow ahead with stats. Thanks for all the great info. It sounds like once you get through all the admission red tape it's a good program. Feel free to PM any time.

Good luck! And congrats for passing that test!

Hi,

I don't have enough post to respond to IMs, so I have to chat with you here. There was an error on 5 of the questions, so everyone who took the test was given 5 additional points. So my 75 is now an 80. Now I can truly say I'm done with Health Appraisal :)

Fantastic!!! I know you feel great about it now! Wooohooooo!!!!

Congrats!

Be careful about buying the 2004 edition of Scope and Standards of Practice. I was going to do the same thing - but when my boss got the 2010 copy for work - I looked through both of them and they are very different. Look on adlibis - but make sure you have the right IBSN number!! :twocents:

Good point. With some publications there is a good reason for having a new edition. Sometimes when we cut corners we bump into them!:thankya:

Fantastic!!! I know you feel great about it now! Wooohooooo!!!!

Congrats!

Thanks...Huge sigh of relief :)

Has anyone taken statistics at OU? If so, does the mid-term and final differ from the module assignments?

hello everyone, i know this is not a reply to your particular school but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advie about finishing my nursing degree online with excelsior college. I don't have any time nor money to waste. I live in Ga and was three classes shy of getting my nursing degree in Dec 2009; Now i'm ready to finish without starting from ground zero. I just went through a messy divorce.

Well, I'm considering changing horses. I've been talking with Aspen Univ. For about $7150 plus books I can earn an RN-MSN. The program looks intersting and applicable. There are no unrelated course requirements and you get to talk to real people with real answers to your questions. Email responses are very timely and I'm thinking this is the route I will take. No, it's not regionally accredited, but is CCNE accredited. The regional accreditation factor is significant for many people, but not for me. There's an Aspen thread going if anyone wants to take a look. For those interested in a BSN only Aspen does not offer that. I'm looking at the MSN bridge program for ADN graduates. Unless I find something really suspicious I'll likely go for the MSN. I've become quite fatigued by OU's less than prompt responses.

well good luck to you Mt.Steel. Im gonna keep pressing forward and hope all is well for me. Im gonna register for 300 on wed.I attempted to do so today but was unable. Im not holding my breath for DARS report before class starts but I can hope.Supposed to be getting financial aid award letter in april so we shall see. I wish all the info you needed was in one place but I find myself still getting a bit turned around with their site. Not all the info is the same for diierent programs. and there is just not ONE DEFINATE place to go and get it. It is frustrating at times and I feel like i waste alot of time just browsing the site for the info i need.Im hoping it will get better or atleast easier. We shall see

I agree about getting around OU's website. It took me FOREVER to find things. I'd think I'd know where to go to look up some little tidbit only to find myself in the maze once again. I wish you all the luck in the world. I think I need to go ahead and get my Master's degree for the future. And the cost is amazing. Keep me posted. I hope you get your DARS report soon. I'll be checking!
