Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I wouldn't dream of taking anything with stats. I actually called Rio yesterday and they suggested I ask to be exemt from taking algebra as their prereq. Denied! I can only test out of it....so forget that. OU it is.......I would like to take it in January so I can prepare over Christmas break, but don't know if it's offered then. Ahhh decisions, decisions. As far as tests go, again, I'm a poor test taker for the most part. I would have to sacrifice my grades if I double up (that's my gut feeling), just to get the work done! I'm such a chicken!!!!

Sorry to hear about Rio, I think I have an old intro to Algebra class I took so I am going to send them my transcript and see what we can do about it. I would like to take it from them as they sound most tolerable. We shall see :) Good luck!!

Why do you dismiss testing out of algebra ? With a little bit of preparation, I'm sure you could do it. So many people think that they're simply "not good at math", when the truth is almost no one is good at it naturally but most of us can get good if we put a little practice into it.

Take a look at the "Algebra for Dummies" book before dismissing testing out. A good math textbook would also help (I have an excellent text book you could borrow if you'd like). With 2 or 3 weeks of review, I bet you'd change your mind about at least trying to test out. Maybe I can help - PM me if interested.

Thank you so much for the support and advice. I just feel it's yet another thing to take/worry about....I kinda want to get it done and over with, like ripping off a bandaid. I will certainly take that into consideration though, since you put it that way!

Quick question for those of you who tested out of 310.How did you prepare and did they provide a specific study guide any advice would be great.

I don't think testing out is an option any more.

:crying2:

I registered for spring 2 and the professor sent me an email saying the option is available the first week of the class and that Jarvis 6th edition is needed as the answers will be from that edition. It stated it will be 100 multiple choice question.

Buy the book - skim the chapters. Buy the companion lab manual - there are study questions in it. There is also an online resource for the book that has - if I remember correctly - a chapter by chapter test question bank. I used all three to study - got an 89% - not curved for us ... took the 89%. It is doable and if you are going to be given the option - take it!

I tested out with a 92 - got the book about a month early and skimmed through it - did the online chapter quizzes -

I did the same thing. I got the book and did the online quizzes.

I'll be taking 310 either next session or the first summer session. The mini-syllabus calls for the 5th edition but there is a newer 6th ed out there. Which did you use?

Update:

This is kind of a moot point now. Since I posted the question, I've actually ordered new copies of the 5th edition for both the text and manual - couldn't resist the price and will have to put up with using the older edition. With luck, I can prep for Appraisal while taking Community and test out of it during the Spring 2 session. This would mean I'd have 12 weeks of no courses (who-hoo!)since neither Family Nursing nor Research seem to be offered until Summer 2 or Fall.

Chuckster i think if you will be taking 310 you will have to get the 6th edition as the prof stated in the email to me that some of the answers in earlier editions are inconsistent.Apparently that is why they had to curve the exam before. She also stated that she personally went over all 100 questions and all answer will be in line with 6th edition.
