Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I just got my acceptance email as well. I have some questions though - hoping someone could help me out. When will I be able to see my DARS? Also, I dont see NRSE 300 being offered this spring. Am I missing something?

Another member posted that people starting in March will take the combined transitions/ethics class which is 4510 - Look under the confusion thread!

We will not be taking 300 and 335 or whatever the ethics class is. They are giving us the new combined class. BUT even though registration was supposed to start today, the class won't be posted until sometime the first week of March. I called the school today when trying to register.

As far as the DARS it sounds like recently people have been getting their first review about a month into classes. My transcripts are all showing, just no review is posted yet.

This is good news for you. There was so little meat to the 300 class I was surprised they made you take it by itself in the past. Just one more class out of the way now with out having to double up. I wish you all the best at OU. You do sound busy with young child and another on the way. Congratulations for school and baby!

They started reformatting transitions last August I believe it was ... I took the class in June. It was writing intensive for me, had a huge progject that we worked on from the beginning of the class and was due the final week. Can't remember what it was called...too many papers ago!

I also had to do the Professional Development Plan. It seemed like a piece of cake to me compared to the Family Nursing class I was taking at the same time.

For me it was getting accustom to the whole on-line thing. I wasn't sure and always second guessed everything. Taking it now would be easy but back then I was so nervous about screwing up. Lots of fluffy writing as I recall (vaguely).

I decided not to double up on the first class. Since it's the first time it's being given combined with legal/ethics, not sure what to expect. I know that ethics had that big group project that had to be done each week, from reading everyone's posts. I figure it will be easier to finish faster with 3 less classes to have to take, so I'm going to give myself the 5 weeks to adjust. It's nice they are offering us the combined, I thought we'd have to make sure to take both of them before Fall.

Excellent plan. Then you can roll from there. Good luck!
