Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Hoping to start Fall 12. Advisor stated that I should likely hear back by the end of July. Where do you purchase your text books? Any good sources that are well priced? Excited to be heading back to school!

I rent mine from chegg.com, if I can't find it on my local Craigslist.

Chegg.com for me as well. July??? They haven't sped up this process yet??? That's ridiculous. Anyhow, you can get your ducks all lined up in the meantime. Good luck!

That sounds kind of far out to me. I applied mid October and found out early February so it wasn't too bad.

Would it be really bad if I took Transitions with Community Health, (Assuming I double up for part A) and then took Legal/ethics with Cultural diversity? Those are the only classes offered together that I could double up on. It's hard to know what are good to be taken together.

I read some posts about getting to know your community. I do work in an inpatient psych unit, so hopefully that will give me some resources as far as community assistance. I may be able to pick my social workers brain a little as well:)

I have to register in a couple days so just want to make sure I have this figured out.

Although I'm still on the fence about Doing transitions with another class. I think learning the APA format is going to take some time for me.

Know one memorizes the APA format. At least I don't. You always have to look at either a reference book or the website recommended. I think for as much time as you are on this forum. You could get it done. All you need is an 80% to pass. Not too hard to make that happen.

I will be taking Legal/Cultural doubled up as well. I will also be in Community next time. So, cannot give you insight on those classes.

Ethics was the easiest class I have taken here. If you are going to combine a class, then adding one to ethics would be a good plan

I've doubled up with everything except Transitions and Cultural diversity. Will also take Excellence solo. Not sure that I would double up with Transitions, but I think it's doable with the other classes. I made my highest grades in Diversity and Legal, so as long as you stay organized and on top of assignments, you should be fine.

Do you remember what your TA nitpicked about? My family nursing TA seemed to like everything I did...100% on all assignments and posts. But, in transitions (300) which I took at the same time, I also got nitpicked on citations. A half point could be a large percentage. I got a better average in Family even with those awful tests!

One nitpick was for not indenting my citation. Sometimes when you go to transfer from word document it will not hold the original formatting and will not allow you to change it. So, I would add a note after citations that I could not indent when I needed to so I wouldn't get dinged.

I wrote pps. (instead of p.) for pages on one in text citation and another one I did not cite a page or paragraph when I quoted a website. I lost a point, got 95%.

I also got marked down on my discussion posts in weeks 2 & 3. One says I used pg, instead of p. But, no other details...just marked down a point on the main portion.

Geez that's crazy!!!! Feel like protesting!!!

Got my acceptance letter today! I applied on Dec. 23, so about a 2 month wait! Guess it's getting better!

Congratulations! Yes...sounds like they are speeding things up!

I just got my acceptance email as well. I have some questions though - hoping someone could help me out. When will I be able to see my DARS? Also, I dont see NRSE 300 being offered this spring. Am I missing something?
