Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

So the pre-assessment assignment is not loading in my group for tomorrow's due date. Is everybody having this trouble? Tech support aware.....

Well you all should feel pretty good about what you've accomplished. I can't even access the course. Major tension headache today...already behind and not happy with OU.

Had a notice on epic that the pre-assessment is now operational and they have extended the date for completion. I got it to load and completed it - then it crashed and I couldn't see my results.

Done!!! Took me 8 hours and 4 pages with that rubric!!! Yikes.

You rock! I can't even wrap my head around this for some reason. Looking at a list of standards of care and performance going.......pfffffft.

I pretty much go straight down the rubric starting with the ANA book. Once I started i had to keep going. The PA Code site was not all that impressive but we only need to "summarize". I still ended up with 4 pages! Hope it's correct . Luckily I didn't hand it in yet.

Still don't have access to the course! This is getting ridiculous. Pray for me, lol!

Have you phoned the nursing program office at Ohio? It may be an IT issue - which would require another, different phone call or e-mail - but I would start with the nursing office.

Did you cover both the six ANA standards of nursing practice and the nine standards for professional performance in your paper? I'm having difficulty reconciling any of the ANA standards with the PA nursing code.

Oh good - I Haven't even gotten there yet. Still trying to figure out what in the heck to use to "validate" my practice. Had to add specialty standards .. and will use the fact I am certified in emergency nursing ... but what the heck else? Silly mumbo-jumbo paper as far as I can tell. Can ya tell I am frustrated??? :banghead:

Standards of care are the nursing process - added triage as standard vii. Haven't even started on the professional performance standards yet.

Hellllpppppppp:banghead: Also, Im in NRSE 330 and 335 right now. I plan on taking 405 and 410 together for the next 5weeks, am i crazy? (whipers....i was gonna tag on a 5week stat course also:confused:) will i regret it? i work 3 days a week and dont have ANY distractions at home. please advise. Im just trying to be compelete THIS summer. if i dont take 405 next 5weeks, I'll have to wait almost a year to take it:uhoh3:

I was reading on the class notes that the OSN module is not a requirement for the class. You should be able to find everything you need regarding Ohio law on the BON website. Your website is quite easy to navigate ... I went there to see what a "user-friendly" site looked like, and it also helped in my search through Maine's antiquated site.

I'm not gonna call ya crazy .... but I am most certainly glad it is you and not me with that classload. I am regretting taking Business Communications with 335! Good luck - come here and vent, ask questions and hopefully find answers. We are here to help each other.
