Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I am very frustrated. I read from page one to page forty something when I was interested in applying to Ohio University. After seeing how long it took chuckster to get in after applying, I sat back and waited patiently, knowing it would be quite a while. For chuckster, it was 4 months, I think? So I have not posted in a while. I applied on July 9th. Here it is almost five months later, and nothing. I was hoping to start in the spring, which I thought was a reasonable amount of time, but I see that hope slowly slipping away. I am trying to hold on because all of you seem satisfied with the program after getting in, and the price is great, but I'm losing hope fast. Who should I contact regarding this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Call the school of nursing and ask for an update on your application - could be they are missing transcripts or something. Good luck!

Have you contacted the school to get an update? I would say start there and find out.

Call the nursing dept directly and don't hang up until you get the answers you need. Someone has likely not followed through or misplaced something. Call first thing Mon and be persistent no matter what!

i am currently waiting, but not as long i applied in October for the spring session. i called the school and i now have a much better understanding as to why the process can become ridiculously long.Well according to OU your application is processed based on your desired start date and not based on when you apply. so if you apply in july for spring and another person applies in September for the winter session they process application for winter first.makes no sense to me as individuals apply early for a reason.

I find no sense of urgency from them about a lot of things! I like to plan way ahead and can't....drives me crazy but you gotta deal with it.

For anyone wanting to take stats somewhere else, I just finished up Stats at Rio Salado - it is a go-at-your-own-pace class that you have 14 weeks to complete. It took me 5 weeks - and I got an A+. PM if you want info

Also, intercessions for general electives - Western Oklahoma State - nicely inexpensive, perfectly transferrable!! Wosc.edu

Thanks for the info. Is Stats an online course?

I would like to take a poll of current students.

1. How many classes do you take per 5 weeks?

2. How many hours do you spend on the NURSING classes?

3. How many hours do you spend working while taking classes?

Thanks in advance.

I take 2 classes at a time Per 5 weeks. I work full time night shift. 3 twelves. I really couldn't tell you how long I spend studying cause it varies by course.

@deltaroxxy2-
