Nursing Students Ohio University

I am starting a new thread for nurses starting in the online May 2013 cohort for ADN to BSN outreach initiative. The first class is NRSE 4510. What's on your mind guys!

APA format is kicking my ass. If it wasn't for that I might actually enjoy and learn something from the discussion board posts. The paper writing sucks. I'd learn more from a multiple guess test, but that is me.

I feel the same way, Scott. I've been going back and forth with my TA all day about "mistakes" on my paper and have yet to get anything clarified. It's not the content of my papers that is the problem. I'm kinda over it. As long as I get an 80, I'm good.

Specializes in ICU,ER, Radiology, Online education.

Get use to it. Every single nursing class is just that....APA!

I'm fine with APA. I'm not okay when points are deducted and there's no explanation. In my last email, I even explained that I just wanted to know what *exactly* was wrong so I wouldn't repeat the mistake. Her emails are not making sense. I find it odd that my APA format is fine for other classes lol

Ironically enough, this probably could have been resolved if she would use complete sentences and clarity in her responses.

Well week 3 is over. On to week 4. This week doesn't seem as bad.

Our instructor made an announcement which makes me think everyone is getting lots of point deductions on everything. I've yet to receive satisfactory feedback from my TA whenever I question it.

A co-worker took this class last semester and she was flabbergasted when I showed her the grading. Apparently I lost the lottery on good sections =/

Yeah all of us in the Online Degree Completion course got that announcement. I can not complain about my TA she has been fair. Have a 90% in the class after all week 3 stuff has been graded. Reading some of my classmates DB posts I see what the professor is saying though.

You lucked out, Scott! I'm giving my TA one more chance. It's rather hard to incorporate feedback when it's given to you in sentence fragments.

Yeah, basically all I've been doing for the assignments is going by the directions posted in the weekly announcements (IE touching on all the topics that the directions say to touch on) and going by the grading rubric. When I review the feedback I can see the areas where I didn't address something fully or messed something up with the APA reference formatting.

Well exactly 6 days left in this course. Then a wonderful 1 day break before starting 4560. Wahoo!!!

Indeed! I should have my last stuff finished by Tuesday. I ended up taking one less class this summer because I'm having surgery in a few weeks. I only have stats and our assignments are already posted! The instructor recommends getting an early jump on things. I guess that's kinda nice to have but geez.

Ah well. I also recalculated and I can take only one class per 5 week term and still graduate in a year. That's doable for me!

Awesome! The one class per 5 week term is the smart way to go. I was going to take two classes middle 5 weeks in the fall, but after this first 5 weeks and getting a feel for things I decided to stick with the one class per 5 week plan. I'll be done the first 5 weeks next summer, which is fine. I could use a break before 4560 starts, but oh well.
