My TA finally posted ... yeah! She said to use colors and shapes just like the website did. So ... will be adding a Key to the bottom of my page ... LOL. Let me see - Paternal grandparents - G'ma was from Sweden, G'pa was from Denmark. Different colors - now when I get to my father ... do I color him as American or as a Dane/Swede??? G'parents on father's side were foreign born and immigrated with their families as children .... Going to be complicated I can see that now!!! Mother's side - all English ancestry and had been here for years. Then I get to add in my brother and me - both of us adopted - so do I add OUR ancestry??? I am sure that I am reading entirely too much into this!

I'd have to reinvent myself, lol!:lol2:

I have a quick questions: my family is still in Germany and I have to base my questions off of that even if they do not really apply, that should be ok right? Everybody in my family is just plain German so all my shapes are red until my American husband comes into play and he is a blue square. He looks kind of lonely there lol We have no kids. Do we have to include ages or birth dates of the family members? Also, I did not see that references were needed and I feel as if there really is not anything the could be referenced. I am waiting to hear back from the TA, just wondering if anybody knew.

Awww Inimica, your husband is a lonely blue square. That made me laugh.

I made my genogram very simple, which was easy because my family is not culturally diverse at all. I labelled the circles and squares with grandmother, uncle, husband, etc...and did not include birth dates.

]Hey Everyone, this is my first time on the board. I've been reading on this site for awhile and decided to finally join. I need the support with this class!!!! I don't know about all of you but I think this 4 credit class is a lot more work compared to NRSE 451 which was six credits.

I just read the TA announcement and she wants cites for both assignments. So I wrote to her saying I basically thought it was a personal reflection on your cultural (genogram) and your results (CCHPA). I really don't understand how you can cite this stuff. Anyway, she responded with

"Please refer to the syllabus, page 2:

]Writing Guidelines

The APA Publication Manual is the guide used in the School of Nursing. It is expected that all

writing will be completed using the style and format described in the APA Publication Manual. Use

the Purdue online resource for APA information to review APA format and style:

]Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide].

]Basically, APA formatted papers, i.e. scholarly papers, are an expectation for all assignments in this course. You should primarily cite and reference the website that you are using for the assignment"

Next question.... how are you guys citing both websites? The genogram website list ]Jean Gilbert, PhD as the author then after that has adapted with permission from Hardy & Laszloffy, (1995). UGHHHH hate hate hate APA!!!

I feel like there is not enough days in the week to work, have a social life, do two assignments, post a discussion, and then respond to two people on the board.

I usually put the author, date, title of document, retrieved from...

Silly class thus far. I've started all assignments but will drag feet to turn them in. APA is the nemesis of all on this forum, lol! Soooo....keep it simple. I have no diversity and won't try to create any. Plain 'ol American family....would have to go back to the pilgrims to find any diversity. Like the rest of the classes you never know what to expect until you get that first assignment back and see how the TA grades. Welcome to week 1 everybody. We can do this!

I asked the question in our qa section about how we are to answer the questions associated with the genogram...ie. number and answer the questions or in paper/paragraph form. She replied they are to be answered in APA format, ie. paragraphs with citations/references from the website. So, I will answer each question in a separate paragraph.

Oh geez...I giuess for the rest of this program I will just assume it is ALL APA format overkill! Thanks.

]Welcome peanutbutterjelly!! (cute). I cited from a chapter in the book....actually there are additional chapters on elselvier. I used the one on Irish as I described my maternal grandparents. Don't know if you are familial with that website. We've had to use it in other classes. Ther are an additional 5 chapters on other cultures. Very helpful! For the CCHPA, I will poke around their website!!! Good luck.

I cited/referenced on the CCHPA assignment but not the genogram assignment. I will probably get dinged on that one!?

I'm also taking 310 and took the "test out" option test today. I passed, woohoo woohoo!!!!!! It's a miracle I tell ya! I thought it was a fairly hard test. Bluck!

Now I can concentrate on this culture class and my business comm. class. So relieved!!!

Congrats to you! I tested out last fall and was so relieved to cross one off the list. Good luck!
