Family Nursing (NRSE 330) summer 2012

Nursing Students Ohio University

Well i will be in this class for the summer session, i am hoping this experiencve wil be a positive one.

Got a lovely grade from the case study entry - felt that all my hard work was worth it to get that grade! I have a great TA. I am very fortunate.

Specializes in PICU.

Is blackboard such a bad system that we should worry??? I hope it works better that epic!

I find blackboard not as organized as EPIC, so I'm pretty bummed about loosing EPIC... at least I only have two classes left. These changes still really suck though!

Where is everyone finding their grade for the case study? I saw a grade listed under my case study discussion but is that different from the actual case study? I didn't see a grade listed where I submitted my answers. Hopefully I'm not missing it.

Maybe she didn't finish you case study assignment yet.

I almost got into big trouble, i didn't realize that every week there is going to be additional information about the family. I just assumed that part was same as last week, i clicked on it just to refresh my memory about the family and was very surprised to see an addition 4 pages of info. I am cutting it close this week, hoping to get done by tomorrow.

You don't get extra points for getting your assignments submitted early . . . just sayin'

I guessed on almost all the questions on the quiz... great! To bad this dumb case study didn't cover anything on that quiz. If it did I would could of scored a 100 by repeative answers!

Sorry guys,

I meant that I got a lovely grade for all of module 2, but it was the case study one that I slaved over - I know they say we should spend something 12-16 hours or something per class - and I did....

I've spent a lot of time on that stuff also. My TA wants to see more research based and clinical examples. She's nice but......come on! Not sure what to make of that quiz. Wish I had payed closer attention to the study guide. Well just 2 more weeks. We turned the corner!

These questions are beginning to work on my nerves :uhoh3: Lots of repetitive writing.

I agree with you - there seems to be a lot of repetition - but I think it is so that when the grading gets done, the TA gets to see the background writing supporting your idea, and then how the family nurse would intervene. I rather like this approach - although having to repeat the stuff does make it a lot more work ...but ....if I were a teacher - I guess this would be the approach since this is a continual case study - sort of like when you are reading a continuing manga (comic book - asian style) - you need the presvious volumes in front of you to keep up with the current answers.

Actually - it is pretty different writing this time - I can say now that I have got those case study responses done - this time there is an added section that asks what the family nurse would do in some of them. I get the feeling it is a slow buildup - the first one was more to set the scene for the case family, and the second one - the one we have this week for mod 3 is how the nurse will be intervening. Anyone else noticed the questions more toward this regard?

Just finished that midterm and I can honestly say that was the most disjointed, poorly written exam that I have taken in a very long time. Tested over vague, meaningless drivel. Can ya tell how much I loved that thing! 2 MORE WEEKS TIL IT IS OVER!! Going to get a nasty review from me ....:flamesonb

I could not agree more with this assessment. There were very, very few questions that got at the key concepts from the readings. Nearly every question asked about some marginal or trivial aspect of the topic. If the goal is educate students about important concepts in family nursing, the course is failing miserably. It's clear that this situation is not new, so I doubt very much that the professor cares about - or even reads - the student reviews of the course. I don't plan to spend any energy on writing one.

And speaking of energy, the midterm pointed out that studying is worthless. No matter how much time you put in reviewing things, you are going to be reduced to guessing, so why bother?
