Anyone else taking Assessment for Fall third session?

Suggestions from anyone who has taken it already?

I'm driving myself bonkers with the literature review. I picked adolescent substance abuse but I cannot find journal articles on "content" -- ie, what exactly am I teaching them? Most articles are why communities and schools need prevention programs. Any suggestions?

Try to focus on what it is that you would want to teach them ( is your target the adolescents or the parents) , the content, not just the topic. That might give more articles to choose from.

I like how our Professor Lectures are from a stupid website. Must have taken the prof a long time to come up with her lesson plans for this course. NOT! Then you have the TA's who do not answer questions on the Q&A. That must be hard work too. Gosh almighty I have fallen out of love with this program.

What lecture? I didn't see that.

I wish there was a more clear cut layout for this skin and lymph assessment??!!

I'm looking at it this way, if I had a patient and I needed to assess the skin or peripheral circulation or lymph status, what would I do? I ask pertinent questions, I check the body and I document it. That is my approach with this assignment.

That's my problem. "Journal articles" do not provide content. I can find a ton of stuff on internet websites but not in journal articles -- let along those within the last five years ... :(

I was going to try to incorporate parents and adolescents but I'm probably just asking for more work so I think I'll dwell only on the adolescents.

I agree with thinking about what you want to teach. I picked mental health and mental illness. I'm focusing mine more towards educating on the S/S of depression and suicide. YOu can include things about the why as well, in terms of why it is important to provide this education.

Try searching for public education in one search box or community education. THen in the other put s/s of drug abuse, effects of drug abuse, medical conditions related to substance abuse, things like that. I'm sure there are studies on peer pressure and how it affects the likelihood of substance abuse. I come across stuff all the time when looking for psych related articles. Just play with the words for the search categories.

I picked increasing obesity in adolescents. Trying to think what to teach? Any ideas it seemed like a good topic but may be too broad. Proper amount of activity to prevent obesity but that also depends on what you eat. I could teach the diseases associated with obesity. Any ideas? Thanks

It does seem broad, and very interconnected. Are there aspects identified by the HP2020 connected to the objective? Might be good to see what topics are included in adolescent obesity search... might help to see what has been addressed by research and pick from that.

Or just pick an aspect of either increasing activity or improving nutrition ( how to choose healthier foods when eating out?)

Seemed like a simple assignment, but it can get complicated quickly. It took me a long time to narrow my focus for mine.

lack of time to cook at home -- both parents work, teach using "my plate" application, how to read food labels, reasons for healthy diet. I did obesity in children for Community. Look in a nutrition book for some teaching ideas.
