NRSE 4600 is an on-line class. There is a new accreditation requirement that we have to have one course with a clinical component in our RN to BSN.

NRSE 4600 will have one project that will include working with a preceptor of your choice. It will not be for the whole five-weeks.

We are being required to do this in order to maintain our accreditation with CCNE.

NRSE 4600 NURSING EXCELLENCE; your LAST nursing class, you will need to email [email protected] with your NAME, PID, CLASS NAME and CLASS NUMBER, SESSION DATE, and ask to be enrolled.

You will receive an email when this process has been completed.

I think this is total BS to change the requirements for people who are already in the program and almost completed. Many people picked this school based on no clinical component. I can see implementing it going forward for anyone who enrolls from here on out, but for those already in, so not fair.

That is an understatement!

I have not got the email either. I'm wondering how involved this "project' is going to be. I'll have to arrange and pay for babysitting now, which gets expensive for 2 kids. Plus we were planning a trip out of state during this class, which now I can't plan because I have absolutely no info on what to expect. I understand it's a requirement for accreditation, but I would think people already so far into the program would be exempt, as it was not part of their educational plan in the start.

Hi EmJeanRN,

I am registered for 4600 in Jan 2013 and there is a lab. I received an email from the nursing dept. stating:

"NRSE 4600 is an on-line class. There is a new accreditation requirement that we have to have one course with a clinical component in our RN to BSN.

Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

Frills, or anyone else who got this email, when were you admitted to the nursing program? I'm wondering if this may be why some of us got it and some us didn't. Perhaps it's based on whenever you started. Maybe some of us will be grandfathered in and dont' have to do the lab, I dunno. I was just curious if you started later that I did (I started Spring of this year).

Hi DidiRN,

I started the program in May 2011. I also wondered if our start dates determined if we had to meet the new requirements. I'm guessing that the only students grandfathered in are the ones who have already completed the class. I can understand that requirements change but most of us work, have families, and are trying to finish our degrees. I had debated about taking excellence the last session of this year. I decided I needed a break, wish I had just done it now! I'm hoping we can choose a preceptor from our place of employment. I wonder how many hours this "project" will entail. I noted that the book for excellence has an online access card included in the price of the book. I was thinking about buying a used book but sometimes the online access is not included. Anyone have any info on this.

Okay...the nursing department had to enroll me this morning...I got the official reply with the clinical/lab component as part of my Nursing 4600. I have been in the program since January 2012 with two nursing classes left to take.

If this is an accreditation issue...OU has no choice. It is bad timing for you. I was the first graduating class in my ADN program. We were the guinea pigs for that school. We were constantly told one thing and then it changed just as quickly. Our school still does not have accreditation and when they do we will NOT be grandfathered in, but, we were told for two years that we would be,...and therefore I am getting my BSN for that reason only. You have got to learn to let this go...and adjust. That is what we were told in nursing school...that is what nurses need to be able to practice in real life. That things change and you have to move on.

Life is about change but that does not negate the fact that this program is deteriorating nearly daily. I would be mad as a wet hen if I were woodsyrn. All the prep that goes into just getting accepted, juggling your life schedule, electives, etc. and now this?!!! I totally get where everyone is coming from.

I'm in the class so I'm guessing the change is for spring classes...

You are right on with the grandfather thing. There has to be a clause for that.

I just want to get done! I hate that it seems like every time you turn around they change the rules. From something as simple as getting marked off for something on a paper due to poor and unclear instructions from the instructor (not to mention it not being in the grading rubric!), to raising tuition, to this!! I feel I have come too far to just stop now and will just deal with whatever they throw at us. I am just so frustrated!!! (Thanks for letting me vent!)

Vent away...that's how we all get through this, lol! Hang in there.

I agree and I might have been a bit harsh. I just don't think that one person has more cause to be irate than another.

Because OU has definitely been a disappointment.
