Is anyone here taking chemistry at Clovis community college this summer? It starts next week and just want to see if anyone is going to be suffering with me! :nailbiting:

I'll be keeping tabs on your posts, since I still have to take it. Even if no one else is taking it with you, I'll be watching.

Good Luck!

O-no...I'm all alone!!! :(

I'll let you know how it goes cincinursemary!

Jandm855 how is the chemistry going at clovis?

It is actually going great! There is no book, the instructor just posts his lecture notes (which are very short and to the point), quizzes and tests (which you can use your notes) and labs. Very doable!

Thanks for the update. I'm gonna have to take it, probably in the spring.

Jandm855,

I have a question for you. Have you taken Algebra in the past 2 years? The reason I ask is that I attempted to register for the Chemistry class @ Clovis for this Summer and was told that I would have to either take placement exams or pre- requisite algebra. My last math classes were in high school, over 20 years ago. I have had enough ridiculousness already with this entire program, and don't feel like jumping through any more hoops... Do you feel that you need a great deal of algebra expertise to successfully complete the Chemistry? I just started Statistics @ OU 7/1 & am seriously considering dropping it already- I just don't understand it at all. After completing 9 classes w/ 4.0 GPA, this may be where I quit...

Chemistry is more math than science. There is a lot of algebra questions to find the science answer they are looking for. They may give you some info about an "unknown" substance and then you will take the info and apply to a algebra type formula, get the answer and find the substance based on the answer. I made the mistake the first time I took college chem, thinking it was more like a non math class and barely got a C. Took several years later and got an A. I do not believe stats will help very much in Chem.

I have not taken a math course in over 5 years... The last one being stats. I took chemistry in high school (13 years ago) and remember a very large portion of it was based on math, however this course at clovis is very basic math that you can use a calculator on. The teacher is very straight forward and puts things in black and white on how he wants it. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs to take it!!

Jandm855,

Thanks! Perhaps there is still hope. I'm trying to take stats now & am about to lose my mind. On top of it, I've had wicked bronchitis with 101+\- temp for almost a week now. Did you have to take the acuplacer exam to get into Chemistry @ Clovis?

Sorry you are feeling sick. That makes it really hard to focus. When I applied to Clovis to take Chem, I just applied, got my student ID and registered for class. No test.

I had to drop it before I got started, because of a bad pathology report and surgery. I probably will take it in the spring.

Nope, no test. Just register and you are in. I just finished the class yesterday and would again recommend this class to anyone who needs it. The final is long (100 questions) and it has to be proctored ( I had to pay $50.00) but you can use your notes and a calculator. I would recommend keeping your work from the math assignments because it looked like the same questions came up on the final.
