    Hello, I would like to know if anyone ever went to professional skills institute for their lpn course? If so how did you like it, and how much does it cost to go there.

    I don't go to Prof Skills Instit, but did attend the orientation and seriously considered attending.

    The thing that made me choose Owens over PSI was the fact that none of the classes transfer to accredited colleges. When you finish and pass your NCLEX, the nursing license will be recognized by schools, but the around $14,000 tuition leaves you no class transfer credit. With hospitals in Toledo not so likely to hire LPNs(some have policies against hiring), a lot of LPNs are choosing to get their LPN-RN after they graduate.

    I really like Owens. It's tough, but the program teaches a lot. I've taken all of my pre-req RN courses (before starting the program), plus the pharm and nutrition courses will transfer to the RN. Tuition is around $5000 including all for the year. Pharm, nutrition, and most elective science, etc. courses are offered online if you need that flexibility.

    I would go to the orientation at PSI, and check out all other schools. You'll get a feel for what's right for you, and go from there.

    I attended and graduated from the LPN program at Professional Skills Institute. I have been a nurse for 3 years now. I learned more in that program than I ever learned in the RN program I transferred from at The University of Toledo. I had to transfer due to a lack of money to complete the RN program. I find that I was much more prepared than many nurses out there and I recommend not only the school but becoming an LPN prior to becoming an RN. They expect A LOT from RN's, even new ones. Many new RN's I have met have disclosed to me that they felt like they were thrown to the wolves in a sense. These hospitals are in such need for RN's that they are hiring inexperienced nurses for very high skill/critical positions and they are not ready. Also, remember that nurses eat their young...it's rough out there as a new nurse....be strong and stay determined and you will make it through! I now have pediatric, I.V., trach & vent experience....because I wasn't afraid to ask questions and try new things. Being a nurse is hard but it is also very rewarding when you suceed!

    I was recently accepted into Pro Skills and will start Oct 5, I'm very excited about the program and have spoken to a few of the students who all love it there.

    Just wanted to say that I also heard from my CNA instructor
    that she graduated from PSI and she was very pleased with them.
    She started out at Toledo School of Practical Nursing then
    transfered into PSI's program. Said she was not happy with
    the program at TSPN. However I think it is each individuals
    decision and you need to research the programs your interested in.
    I just turned in my application packetto TPSN yesterday.
    This after completing the NET and passing it. I was told yesterday
    that I start this January 2010. I have had other tell me that
    they have heard from former TPSN students that they have an
    excellent program.
    And why did I choose them? Their tuition is $11,000 for the 1 year
    program. I just hope that their program is as good as I hear. I know
    so far the administrative staff has been very helpful.:typing

    I graduated from PSI last march and was part of the first class to do the night program. It was 18 months instead of a year 4 days a week from 5-10, days and hours varied based on semester but thats the jist of it. I really enjoyed it straight to the point no general education classes like english. Instructors were great lab times were nice to get hands on training, i have no complaints. Enjoyed my time there, I feel I was prepared well.
    Tuition was about 14000 though...

    Hey were they very helpful in obtaining funds for your tuition (financial aid, loans etc) I haven't been in for my financial aid appt yet. I go next month. Also how was the class scheduling, I start in Oct and I'm driving from Michigan so I'm trying to get myself prepared for whats ahead.

    yes they were very helpful with the tuition and there is financial aid. Are you attending the night or day program? I went to the night program and the scheduling of classes wasn't to bad, i never felt overwhelmed, i kept everything organized. The scheduling is different for day and evening programs. I think the daytime classes have clinicals and attend class at the same time. The night program we did all the class work then did a few weeks of clinicals which made it less stressful. Well I hope you enjoy it there, we had quite a few students from michigan when I went too, good luck.

    Thanks so much for the reply. I'm actually in the daytime program . want to hurry and get it over with :typing. I'm so looking foward to getting this chapter of my life started and over so that I can focus on the rest. Glad you had a good experience, and hope all is well with you and your nursing career.

    Hey there, I am trying to get into the same program- the evening LPN program at PSI. I have done all the steps except the entrance test which I am taking next week. Was the entrance test hard for you? Hopefully I will see you in class!!!!
