Tri-C in Cleveland

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

NewStart2010:yeah:

did you wait long after applying.

I've had my career all mapped out, so I applied last year because I WANTED to start this fall. So it all worked out as far as when I was finishing my sciences to when I actually start the program. But I know they are admitting for Spring 13 still, so if you want to start then, you have a good chance of getting in for the January 13 semester! Good luck on your AP and getting into the program.

This summer I will be taking math 0960 +& eng 1010. Fall I'll take psy 1010, math 1200 +& bio 1100. So I'll be applying probably jan 2013. Is there a chance I can get in fall 13?In spring 13 I'm gonna take a&p1 and psy 2020 .summer 13 a&p2 and micro. Should I wait an extra semester to apply? This is such a long process :( I don't wanna spend 4-5 years on an adn when I can go to cleveland state for the same amount of time and get a bsn. I do have a daughter though, and i'd like to work at least weekends. I just thought the workload would be lighter in an adn program than a bsn. Also, I didn't even want to go for my rn. I wanted to be an lpn but i have heard from one person that the market sucks for them in this area. Maybe I'm just rushing things. I reeally want to be a nurse but it seems so out of reach sometimes.

I am an LPN so I can tell you that you're right, you need to get the RN!! Its a tough road but it will pay off in the long run, believe me. I am in the lpn to rn program currently at tri-c and my opinion is to keep plugging away like you are doing now. If you have kids & work, tri-c is great considering how many on-line classes there is and even when you get into the program they have an evening weekend option for people like you. You can't even apply until the prereqs are done so I'm doubting that you can get in 2013 because your math is putting you behind, you need 1200 math or equivillant. It will go by quickly....you can do it :nurse:

Hi hopefullyfuturenurse,

I too was in pretty much the same situation you are in now. I was able to start my application process this January/February, and around mid-March I finally completed the process, and was accepted into the Fall 2012 program. So, it is possible to start in Fall 13 if you apply in early 2013. Do not waste one day though. There are many steps you will have to follow in the process and there are many people trying to get in after finishing up their December classes. I am also on a similar course track. I'm finishing up my A&P1 and PSY2020 this week, then I'm taking Micro and A&P2 in the summer. It is do-able. (I work full-time and I'm a single mother).

I also agree that you will want to get your RN and not your LPN. I have LPN friends who cannot find work. And unfortunately, in order to go back to school in the LPN to RN track you must have 1 year of work experience, but they can't find jobs to get that experience so they can't even go back for their RN!!

Good luck!

Whoa, that's a heavy load right there. I like how you paired things up. I would not suggest taking AP2 AND micro together in the summer unless you totally HAD TO, which doesnt seem like you do, since you have not even applied to the program yet.

If you plan to get your BSN, DO NOT waste your time taking Bio 1100. BSN's require (like CSU) chem I and II. Figure out if you are going to get your BSN, find the school you will transfer to, then look at their requirements. Ohio U only requires Chem I. Other schools require both. That will set your path right there. Some schools like Kent require also, Sociology AND Nutrition. Be careful, cuz you could get stuck when you think you are almost there.

I would suggest going for the BSN. More and more I am hearing and reading that pretty soon, especially in this Cleveland area, hospitals are going to be hiring only Rn's with a BSN.

you say that you dont want to spend 4-5 years on an ADN, well, unless you are taking 4 classes at once, then you WILL spend that amount of time. I have been working on my ADN AND my BSN pre-reqs and it has taken me 2 years to get to the point of starting Nursing in the Fall. I decided early on I wanted a BSN and simultaneously got the BSN pre-reqs out of the way, so after I graduate (by the grace of God) from Tri-C, I will jump right into 3 semesters at CSU and be done with my BSN.

You have all of those ADN pre-reqs to get out of the way, and that is going to be the bulk of your time for now. I know you want it over with, trust me, we all do, but you must also remember that you need to get your GPA up high because Nursing is a whole other animal and C's in nursing = CONTINUE!

Also, just fare warning, I would suggest you take math 1250 instead of 1200. Specially with 1200 AND Bio 1100, oh boy.... Talk to your councelor about 1250. You will be so glad you took 1250, rather than 1200.

Also, apply to the program 1/2 way into AP2. Good luck to you!

AP2 is not a pre req though, so wouldn't it put me behind a few semesters? As opposed to applying as soon as I finish eng, bio, psy, +& math?

What are your goals. You need to figure out your goals and then make a plan based on those goals? Are you looking to get a BSN? If so which school would you like to go to after Tri-C? Do you just want to become an RN for now? Figure out your goals and then base your plan off of that and stick with it.

Well said, Scott. I guess I could have said that instead of writing a reply for a 1/2 hour without an acknowledgment.

Sorry, I really didn't mean to be rude :/ your reply was very helpful.ScottE- I would like to get my RN +& work for at least a year before going back for my bsn, which i'd like to do at csu.

That's the Transfer guide for CSU.

You might also want to consider Ohio University's RN-BSN program. They have an agreement with Tri-C.

thank you for the acknowledgment. I didnt mean to be rude either, sorry. :sniff: I just like to know that you think I was helpful, cuz that's what we're here for, to support and guide one another.

I like CSU's BSN track because 1, there are less classes to take than OU

2. Dollar per dollar, even tho OU is like $155/CH and CSU is almost $400, the price ends up about the same becaues OU makes you take more credit hours (CH)

3. I'm pretty sure OU requires Soc & Nutrition, CSU does not.

The only thing about going to work after your ADN is that you could find a job you LOVE and have to quit, or you will be so used to working and having $$ that you wont find "a good time" to go back to school for your BSN. Working and going to school could be a hard feat, specially if you have a kid/kids. Think about getting it over with.

Also, try to get your sciences ALL DONE before starting Nursing. I know so many people that are taking Micro with Nursing, and that is a lot to handle.

It will for CSU's BSN as well as fulfillment of ADN at Tri-C:thankya:

I am looking to do the same thing I want to finish my ADN at Tri-c since Ive came this far and then transfer to CSU and take their BSN program. Your right I work at an area hospital and by 2014 they want 60% of their nurses to have BSN's . I would just do the BSN but it is so much more competitive I think a 3.5 at least. I want to eventually maybe do my Nurse Practioner but for now I have to focus on getting done with point A first. I would go to Kent but I was not real clear on their RN-BSN anyone know?
