STNA salaries???

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I am looking to become an STNA. The program I'm looking to take is offered by and Nursing home. I could be (no contract being signed) hired on directly after I finish the two week course & then of course pass the state test. They are offereing $8.90\hour as a new employee, does this sound about right? I was thinking that being certified would give me at least $9.50.

Does anyone know if that is a resonable starting price?

Do hospitals pay more for their STNA's?

Thank you for your help!!

Patience

I've worked in 2 different cities as a STNA.. one near the Findlay Ohio area.. Making 10.15 an hour. And I worked in Medina Ohio near Cleveland and made 9.50 an hour. I found a nursing home that would pay for my schooling and even paid me while I was taking the classes.

I am taking an STNA classes at Miami Valley Medical College on Edwin C. Moses Blvd. The class is 2 weeks long. It costs $590 and that includes tuition, books, and the cost of taking your state exam. I haven't started my classes yet so I can't give any real references about what the school is actually like. I had to get a physical and a two-step TB test before I could apply. I got those done at Urgent Care for $90.

I also know that Greene County Career Center offers STNA classes. I think they cost $485 and you have to pay to take the state test (about $97 I think)

Good luck!

That's who I went through for my STNA and I felt it was a good experience, over all. The teachers were helpful and clinicals were a good experience.

Meghan, I can't wait to start! I was wondering, after completing your STNA classes at that school, are you also CPR certified, or is that a separate class?

CPR is not included. You'll need to do that separately. You could go to Red Cross or the AHA but their classes tend to be pretty pricey. A few of the local fire departments (Washington Twp is the only one that comes to mind, but there are others) offer CPR classes to the public, so you may want to consider calling them. Make sure you tell them what your new job is and what CPR is required (usually the one for healthcare professionals or professional rescuer, I think they're called). Call in advance though.. some only offer classes monthly. Good luck!

You guys are so lucky to get all those nice amenities with your program cost. I have been an NA for just over a year, but had to pay extra for uniforms, state test, etc. As far as salary goes...in the hospital I make just over $8. Our top NA in the house makes about $11/hr. At the ECFs in my area (north central ohio) they start at about &8.50/ hr but the 20pt load didn't interest me compared to the training I recieve at the hospital. Plus that experience comes in handy for nursing school.

ok so i just got hired on as an stna in fairborn i am only 17 yrs old and the pay they are offering me is 10.75 on weekdays and 11.25 on weekends go to carespringhero.com and check if there are any nursig homes around there because they have many centers around ohio indianna and kentucky and i believe they pay the same.

Well it looks like the pay is around the same price range... Although it looks like where you live has something to do with it. I'm looking into a STNA program offered at the Cleveland Clinic, here in Cleveland. I havent asked yet what the pay rate is, I'm honestly not concerned about it anymore. I'm really looking to get out of my current job and start doing something in the medical field. This program doesnt start until June\July... but later better than never!

i worked at the clinic as a STNA (through their program) and they started me at $11-12/hr.... They call it a PCNA - patient care nursing assistant....granted, that was about a year ago... maybe it's higher now???? They tend to pay on the upper scale.

Im not sure what part of Ohio youre in but here in Cleveland at Montefiore(beachwood) the pay is typicallly 10.xx to start with paid training and working with them after the 3 week training course

I work in a LTCF near Medina and I started out at 10.25 w/ .25 shift differential. That was 3 yrs ago, now I believe our starting wage for STNAs is 11.35, Not sure if thats with the shift differential or not.

I work PRN at a Carespring LTC I make $13.50 M-F 2nd shift and $14.50 on Sat & Sun. That is with no expirence. They paid me to take the classes back in May of 2007. I am in school full time so I do not work that much but there is plenty of hours available.

When I became an STNA i got my license through a nursing home offering a two week program and started out at a little over $10 an hour, but I was also working 3rd shift...Stupid me left that place and my salary has suffered had I been smart I would have stayed. I have been an STNA for almost three years and I am currently making $9.60 an hour. Not horrible but its not great either. Plus I love my job most days, but sometimes it frustrates me because I have seen a lot of cases where families feel guilty for not taking care of their own family member and they take it out on the aides. So I suggest if you want to be an STNA prepare yourself for those people and the nurses who think they are better than you just because they are in charge. The job can be rewarding if you dont let the little things get to you. Good luck!

soem aids start off like 7.00 and at other places they are paying 11. 00 bucks so it all depends on if your in assistant living facility or nursing home or hospital and your experience . Assistant living pays less because the resident ADLs are low because they can pretty much do for themselves. hth
